Has anyone been in Crutchfield recently? Their site says this:
For the seventh year in a row, Crutchfield Corporation has been named to BizRate.com’s “Circle of Excellence” for performance and customer service, making Crutchfield the only consumer electronics retailer to have won every year since the award’s inception.
I have no clue how they got this award. Maybe I’m just a pissy person in nature or what, but I wandered around their store for probably 10 minutes and no one helped me. Quite frankly, their customer service is horrible. When someone came to speak with me they were being dishonest about TV features. I know this because I had verified features on Audio Video forums before I went in.
Maybe they have really good phone sales people, but the in store team makes too much money or something. Don’t go there!

This entry just reminded me of a similar experience I had there a while ago. I was interested in buying a fairly expensive item and was surprised that the two guys at the employee “outpost” near the car stereos didn’t pay attention to me. I paced back and forth in front of the section, I fiddled with the components as if to say “Sell me this expensive stuff!”, and even resorted to the tilted head “I don’t know anything about anything” pose. Nothing.
I will say that once I told the guys “I want to buy one of these”, I had the undivided attention of one of them and he was fast and efficient. Perhaps their philosophy keeps them from approaching customers so people will feel comfortable playing around. There are definitely cues that would tell a salesperson that a customer is there to browse or there to buy, though, and they should pick up on that. I don’t think you should have to hunt someone down so you can give them your money.
