As a resident in walking distance to the current Whole Foods location, I wholly approve of this news. Except the gangs bit. Still convinced yous guys are pegging that more accurately.
Well, Whole Foods long ago confirmed that they would be a part of the Albemarle Place development set back from the corner of Hydraulic and 29.
At the current rate of development–or lack thereof–I wouldn’t look for the new store for another few years.
Back in ‘05, Cvillenews noted that Whole Foods’ site said they would be moving to Albemarle place, but that was before the at least one year delay due to minor plumbing problems. Now Whole Foods’ site does not specify a location, only “Charlottesville”.

KCB, I KNOW! I just visited my brother in San Diego and came back with bottles of cheap Chimay, lambrusco, and of course, 2-buck-Chuck. I also came back with some wet purple clothes that made my car reek of booze for the two-hour drive from Dulles to Charlottesville at 1 in the morning. I’d packed the bottles in plastic, so it wasn’t a complete disaster, but it was the Chuck. S of a B!

Alas, double confirmation that Trader Joe’s is not soon coming to Cville. Today’s DP mentions that Trader Joe’s has stated that Charlottesville is not in their two year new store opening plan. Also, the TJ website confirms that a new store will be unveiled in Short Pump, of all places. So the commute is getting shorter and shorter, but alas, still too far for my liking.
So if the Trader J’s is not coming along to CVille, what’s the deal with all of the construction at the KMart? We gotta get the Trader J’s asap.

@14..that’s to be the Hillsdale connector road and Whole Foods is moving beside KMart if they ever get everything straightened out with land acquisition.
@15/16 - I have been by the SP TJ’s a few times recently. It’s in a big gross faux-condo neighborhood type shopping plaza and it looks like it will be ready very very soon. Until then, I’ll keep on going to the one in Newport News during the commute.
So basically, the TJ’s in CVille is a pipe dream. Bummer. At least chains like 5 Guys are cool to go onto the mall. Eyeroll.

My crazy mom went to the brand new TJ’s in Short Pump today (very nice by her report), When she mentioned she was from Cville, the manager there said, oh you guys and Virginia Beach are going to have your own TJ’s in 2009. When asked where in Cville it would be, he had no idea…
why does virginia beach get one? aren’t they like right next to newport news?
