Hit me with the music!

The full, fall concert schedule for John Paul Jones Arena isn’t really out there yet, but I just heard that a few big acts are signed on already and one other is in negotiations.

The acts that are definitely on the schedule: The Police, Bruce Springsteen, and Elton John.  I’m so glad I played it cool when The Police came back.Friends gobbled up pricey tickets for shows around the country and I banked on the fact that we’d get them here. Of course, reviews of the reunion tour haven’t been great and Stewart Copeland himself thinks the music has been pretty lame at times, but I’ll probably go.If Springsteen is touring with the Seeger Sessions band, I’ll be heading to that show as well. Who am I kidding…I’ll see The Boss if it’s on stage alone, playing Row, Row, Row Your Boat on a kazoo. I really couldn’t care less about seeing Elton John, but I imagine he’ll have no trouble selling tickets here.

The act that’s still negotiating the terms of a possible show at JPJ: The Eagles. They’re back…or maybe they never left after the last time they did a good-bye tour. They’re interested in filming a DVD at the venue and seem to think they need access to the building for an extended period of time (I was told they’re asking for a week), which would hinder its use by the athletics department.  I don’t quite understand why a crew needs a full week to block for a DVD, but maybe that was just on the “wish list” and they’ll be talked down from there.

Anyway, it looks like yet another season of solid acts for JPJ!

Update: I just checked Bruce Springsteen’s website and the fall tour is with The E Street Band, not with the Seeger Sessions Band.

The Police Tour is a greatest hits show, no frills. If you like the Police, you’ll love it. If you aren’t a big fan, you won’t see anything new or ground breaking.

The link you posted with the comment from Stewart is a bit disingenuous. I believe that was after the first show. Also, musicians and bands are usually their own harshest critics and the audience would never notice any “mistakes” they made.

The Eagles. Bor-ing. I don’t need to make Don Henley any richer, thankyouverymuch.

Magic, I confirmed that the tour is with the E Street Band.

    Just to reiterate…

Stewart Copeland himself thinks the music has been pretty lame at times

I’ve heard reviews from people who went to various shows, so I’m taking more into consideration that Copeland’s blog. Seeing String be a self-indulgent dolt for a few hours is going to annoy the heck out of me, but I’ll endure it to see Stewart, who I think is the best musician of the bunch.

I can’t find any info about Bruce Springsteen on his website or the JPJ website …link anywhere?

I saw The Police, during this tour, both at Bonnaroo (short, perfunctory, phone-it-in-and-blaze-a-path-out-of-town performance) and in Toronto (as Jolene states, a really good, greatest hits sort of show). Depending upon the cost, and based mainly upon the Toronto performance, I’d see them again. I’m presuming that Fiction Plane (the band including Sting’s son) will still be opening. They don’t suck, at least. I’ll say that much for them. As nepotism goes, there is far worse fare out there.

NewToCville: we’re discussing confirmed, but yet to be announced, concerts. You probably won’t find any info on the Springsteen date, anywhere but here.
