I was impressed to find myself in shoulder-to-shoulder traffic, and happily so, as I was taking in multiple exhibits of very exciting art, while sipping wine and eating creatively concocted hors d’oeuvres. Robert Bricker’s drawings of rotund figures and features were what I came for and did not disappoint. The fun surprise of the evening: meeting Russell Richards, whose spunky art any cVillain will recognize (and I love), and seeing Stevie Jay video-record a performance art work involving bodies, paint, and a white wall. Stevie is one of the most exciting people to watch. He’s practically walking performance art.
Susanne Kessler’s mixed media “Synaptic Drawings” were more challenging than the rest of the art we took in. The description of the exhibition on SSG’s website alludes to synapses of the brain and the interior of the body. It was a bit difficult to hear her introduction, but I believe she said that every aspect of her work on display was a characteristic of virginity. (Thor?) I decided the better of asking, “How, exactly?” I would love to hear Slavoj Zizek’s critique.
Cassis showed “Images of Shentai” by Billy Hunt, Jeremy Mullis, and Christa Slotboom. The event drew a good, intimate group of cVillains. The images were compelling whether or not you’d gone to Shentai. I feel badly for even bringing up the wine, since we went for our friends and the art, but theirs was a very generous pour. Nice way to end the afternoon… and start the night.

Agree. I thought McGuffey had some surpisingly nice work on display, while the Second Street material warranted about five minutes of attention, in my untrained opinion.
Her work was obviously promiscuous, not pure.
Indeed, that was morning-after hair mixed with twigs.
The party at Cassis was banging. They had like a DJ and stuff.
The question, then: will Second Street ever have a DJ? And, if so, what are the odds that DJ _won’t_ play Sarah Maclachlan?
I agree, the DJ was great. SSG… hot girls work there, so it’s kind of a trade-off, right?
Oh yeah. I wanted to go to Les Yeux Du Monde. The exhibit sounded cool. Anyone make it?
