My only piece of completely unsolicited advice is to keep the fonts in the navigation bar at the top (Arial?) and in the blog (TNR?) consistent with the font elsewhere on the page, which was a great choice. And update your content early Thursday morning! Again, REALLY nice work.

It’s the same site with a different skin and navigation changes.

And this is why you’re an all-powerful god of the blog, Thor. Thanks!

meh. I like the color changes and stuff, but if they were going to overhaul it, why not go all the way and do some of the structural changes and such that need to take place?

Regardless, it blows away c-ville (still) simply because you can comment on articles. That keeps people coming back, traffic up, etc. Why c-ville hasn’t done this, I don’t know.

Actually, whatever is supposed to load in the main area of the page is either taking forever on Firefox, or just isn’t going to load, period. That’s un-good.

After a couple more visits, I’ve decided the implementation is awful.

Instead of all the stories being visible on the main page, and the number of comments on the story, I’m left with a flash piece to have to click through, a damn tiny scroll box in which to read the article, and then a bunch of random comments on the main page, which can be on any story?

I didn’t even realize I could click on the article title in the flash piece to bring up the whole story. There’s no visual indicator of it being a link until you mouseover it (which seems to be spoardic in functioning), and there’s no way to comment or read the comments on it unless you click through to the individual story page. But you can read the whole story in the little scroll box.

This is such a step backwards, it boggles my mind that:

    a) someone thought this was a good idea
    b) they got paid money to implement it
    c) other people approved this idea
    d) they got paid money to approve it

This is so staggeringly awful in terms of user interface. They’ve pretty much let c-ville back in the game in terms of who has the better website. What made The Hook’s website good was being able to see all the stories and have people comment on them. From a newspaper perspective, that’s what you WANT – make it easy for people to come back and discuss a story over the course of the week.

For some reason, that has pretty much been destroyed.
