OXO late night: It’s the talk of the town. OXO has attracted the single 30-something crowd with promising pensions… and a pension for Prince. The music has improved: we’re hearing what we’ve known and loved since before we owned cell phones. College students need not attempt it, unless they can do the Safety Dance. (Possibly the best worst music video ever.)
A Conversation between Hillary Clinton and John Grisham: I did not attend, though I wanted to. I strongly encourage someone to post!
UVA vs. Georgia Tech: Saturday’s victory makes for 3-0 in the ACC. And UVA’s own Cavman is competing against a slew of other college mascots for the title of Capital One Mascot of the Year. Online voters choose their favorites of six weekly pairings of mascots and can vote daily, so it’s not like it’s just alumni voting for their own schools. You have to be well-liked by everyone. Cavman is definitely the most badass, but I just want to cuddle Big Red. Is that awkward?
The Corner: Hoo likes the drunk tank?
The mall, Saturday: There were two very young violinists performing separately on the mall, and one was playing Pachelbel’s Canon as I passed, one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. I know, I keep bringing up the mall performers… but they are just so brave (and talented)! I played piano in my public library when I was young, and I messed up horribly one time and ran into the adult fiction section and sobbed. This is scary for kids! Clap! Tip!
Mono Loco: The restaurant brings in musicians with some frequency, but this Friday, they cleared the patio for DJ Ill Skills. People were dancing! Clearly, my friends and I like to dance. I wrote about 216’s important place in the community, I suggested Blue Light add a dance floor, I lauded Artini’s dancers, and I asked why X Lounge doesn’t set up the dancefloor every weekend (they now do it more frequently). I’m sure my posts had nothing to do with it, but they do reflect what I thought was a general consensus. Apparently, it was. It’s so Footloose. I love it. I’ll be curious to see how this works out for the restaurants, but I promise to do my part by spending money and shaking my moneymaker.
The Clean House at Live Arts: I want a review! Thespians, where are you?
Gearhart’s: When was the last time you bought yourself chocolate? Come on. You deserve it.

30-something crowd? I’ve been to every saturday since they starated expect for two, and I definately dance with only 20-somethings… perhaps my judgment is off.
Yes, there are a lot of 20-somethings. (Hi.) Average age = 30? You think?
The Ron Paul protesters were out in diminutive force at the Hillary thing, reminding me that my revulsion at her political opinions inevitably pales in comparison to the Ron Paul supporters’ failure to read about their own economic self-interest.
Lillith: I’d say the average age would be 27. Outside of the crews I’ve rolled with to those parties(who are mostly 21-26 but we have our couple of 30-somethings who get busy with us), I feel like it’s really more of the under 30 young professionals on the dance floor. The over thirty-crowd are more than likely the ones you see on the patio or hanging around the bar.
It’s a shame that Ben(the dude who actually started the shit) decided to leave. He(and myself) wanted to turn that party into a stinky, hipster-laden dream land, but it appears that will not be the case. Whatever, though! I’m still gonna shake the fuck out of my ass whenever I go to the Oxo jam.
I checked out OXO on Friday. the guy/girl ratio seemed to be at least 2-1. Maybe that’s an anomoly–it’s the first time i’ve gone so i’m not sure. just throwing that out there.
popularity = increasing guy:girl ratio.. it’s a sad truth.
I’m starting to think it’s that more men go out. Seriously. Everywhere I went this weekend, women were in the minority. I noticed this less at OXO though.
I covered the Clinton event for WVTF Public Radio. The audio of the event is at the Charlottesville Podcasting Network.
I went to OXO late-night recently and the “DJ” was an iPod set to shuffle. In that respect, it is not hard to improve.
L.G. ,
OXO has a guy on a laptop every friday and saturday night. Every time I have been there are people dancing, and the music sounded great.
Anybody got the connections I will go spin at OXO one night.
OXO on saturday… for sure. and i’m bringing women
Great post. The one thing that makes me smile the most is from the section about “The mall, Saturday” where you said Pachelbel’s Canon in D might be one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. I won’t disagree. However, no matter how beautiful it is, I never hear the end of it when my wife plays for a wedding. That piece of music is a joke among the musicians. My wife is a violinist, but it is the cellists/bassists that truly, truly despise playing the same phrase over and over and over and over.
Here is a funny YouTube with a guitarist/humorist’s perspective…

That is hilarious! Thanks for sharing, CrowdedMill, and welcome (officially) to cVillain. We have fun here.
