A few days ago, we did a “Cafe Round Up” where we discussed our opinions on the local Cafe scene. One of our astute readers, wendyaannn, mentioned that we had forgotten Milano. While we tried to focus on the “stand alone” Cafes, I think Milano should be reviewed.

So what is Milano?
We have discussed Milano due to its “better than Splendora’s gelato” status. We haven’t talked about the coffee, until now. Milano is attached to Verity Blue, a high-end furniture store; and both are owned by Mark and Victoria Cave. Its espresso machine is hands-down the most impressive in all of Charlottesville. Baristas need only press one button and the espresso appears after an aromatic clinking of mechanic beauty.
The best thing about Milano is that they don’t serve drip coffee
.
I once heard a European say, “Drip coffee is for plebeians.” Ok, I’m joking, but expect espresso at Milano. The cafe has very nice seating upstairs and on its outdoor patios, just be weary of the occasional train that rattles the entire complex. Now, what about the espresso?
Honestly, despite the Ferrari of espresso machines, their is just too much Machismo in the taste. Milano has a very unique taste to its espresso, but it isn’t smooth enough for my palate. If you go there, expect to be a little more Italian after you finish your first sip. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just not the greatest.
