Ryan Adams= King of Douche-baggery

Ryan Adams had meltdown at show (again)

I wonder what would have happened if he had pulled something like that here. Where does he get off?

Dang, y’all are harsh and I’m not even a big Ryan Adams fan. If anyone caught either or both of the Cville shows then you might have noticed Ryan’s guitar player got hit by feedback out of his monitors on both nights. Monitors are tricky business and ultimately more important than the PA that serves the audience as they serve the band and if the band can’t hear themselves, or are getting hit with feedback, it almost always results in a sub-par performance.

I don’t doubt that Adams was having monitor issues and he did play 70 minutes, which is only 20 minutes or so less than the 2 shows we got here in Cville, so it sounds like he tried to make the best of it and finally gave up.

70 minutes of music plus an alleged “meltdown” is better than 90 minutes of music.

perhaps some back-story will help. this guy is a talented musician, but a pretentious prick. below is just one example of his multiple previous tantrums.

Singer-songwriter/Gap model Ryan Adams takes his music seriously. So seriously, in fact, that he booted a fan out of a show on Tuesday (October 15) night over an innocent little cat call.

Adams was playing at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium when an audience member yelled out “play ‘Summer Of ‘69,’” referencing the hit by Canadian superstar Bryan Adams. It seems that young Ryan is a little tired of the Bryan Adams jokes, because he pulled a major freakout.

Maybe Ryan would’ve preferred “Run To You” or “Cuts Like A Knife.”

According to the Associated Press, Adams started cussing violently and then ordered the light technician to turn the house lights on. Once the lights were up, Adams found the fan who made the request and singled him out. Adams personally refunded the guy the $30 that he paid for the ticket and kicked the guy out, refusing to continue the show until the guy had left the theatre.

On his way out, the unidentified and, more than likely, confused fan was stopped by the manager of the auditorium, who apologized for Adams’ bizarre behaviour. The man returned to his seat and pocketed Adams’ 30 bucks.

This guy throws fits all the time and backs out of appearances more than any artist I know. He’s a great artist, but one who flies off the handle quite easily and doesn’t seem able to keep a firm grasp on sobriety in order to honor is commitments.

I’m a fan of his music, but I agree that he’s a prick.
