Bars: I can’t think of any new creative ways to describe weekend nights at bars on the downtown mall or the corner, so I’ll leave it at “You know, bars on the weekend.”
Vegetarian Festival: It was everything a vegetarian festival should be: homeless animals up for adoption, meatless jerky and kettle corn, anti-war signs, and long lines of “Don’t tell anyone, but I’m actually an omnivore!” folks waiting to buy Ethiopian and Indian meals. I got a kick out of Sha-nay-nay’s review too!
OXO: Oh-la-LA. After this weekend, we promise not to bring it up so much. Why? Maybe because it was packed on Saturday night! I think a lot of people there were “apres-tailgate,” because I witnessed many a faux-pas. Thor?
216: The only lines longer than those at the veg fest and OXO’s bar were 216’s on Friday and Saturday nights. I’m so proud of this city!

Oxo’s saturday night was a complete douche-factory.
It was packed as all fuck(good for Oxo, bad for me).
A beer took twenty+ minutes.
The ratio of people dancing to not was humiliating.
Homophobia was most definately in the air(I’m looking at the asshole who talked shit about a stylist touching his hair and[asshole] proclaimed that he “couldn’t stand being touched by anybody, gay or not” and then went and gave his frat brother a back massage — he was borderline hostile about “being touched”. Pffff… go back to 14th st. you douche).
The crowd there was Dick-Suck City.
The Nice Jenkins’ at Atomic was super-fun — should’ve stayed there.
OXO was wicked PACKED and people were trashed! I mean, there were people who shouldn’t have been standing. It was the same music as last week and pretty obscure at times. Bar waits were atrocious, and the bartenders were more testy because of it.
We’re also starting to see Zocalo hibernate for the winter. Get back there ladies!
I was embarrassed for people. And to all of the gentlemen who purchased drinks for ladies… and had to wait 20 minutes… we love you and appreciate you, and those were the most delicious drinks of our lives.
i don’t get to go out too much, but went to OXO on sat. and had an awesome time. not everyone is gonna dance somewhere so new, but once the word spreads to those who do love to dance, im sure the dancefloor will pick up. its got a really nice atmosphere (helloooo, oxo is so beautiful inside) and surely they weren’t expecting that huge of a crowd, so who can blame them for the waits on drinks?? its just a kink they will adjust to accordingly. but def worth a visit!!!!
sdot - why did you decide to go to OXO and not other “beautiful inside” places, such as Zo Ca Lo or X-Lounge?
Zinc was a disaster on Friday night. It was the trainwreck you couldn’t stop watching, except that you just wanted to leave.
I went to go see The Kingdom and then had nightmares about it. Awesome.
Sunday was the usual football/kickball fest. Of course my camera died so I have no good pictures.

i LOVE x-lounge, one of my favorite places to go if i go out— was there sat all night before i went to OXO but thought i’d try somethin new. Zo ca Lo has never been one of my fave places to go out to drink, but definitely still love their food.
Checked out 6 Day Bender on Friday night at Atomic. Great band name with even greater flyers that I think everyone on this site should appreciate. Oh, and the band is good too; they play a sort of country-rock-bluegrass mash up. Kinda crazy, kinda cool.
I made a brief late night cameo at OXO on Saturday. The place was definitely packed. Perhaps this site is more powerful than we think! Hopefully the crowds will go down a bit…I’m thinking this was a post-night-football game fluke.
Like Chad, I had the usual football/kickball ridiculousness on Sunday, emphasis on the ridiculous part. Seriously, why would anyone want to do anything else with their Sundays?

Saturday at Oxo was frustrating mostly because of how packed it got. The service is the best it can be at this point because of the way tabs are kept and the amount of volume that the bar takes in. USE THE COCKTAIL WAITRESSES, please, instead of hovering over the bar. Go out and dance or talk to your friends or whatever it is you do at a bar besides waiting for your drink.
If anyone actually came on Friday night they would have noticed an extremely different pair of dj’s with an entirely different concept for the music there. It was, I must say, pretty awesome.
Plus, the back is open now and Oxo is getting ready for chilly weather. Go on and sit back where there is candelight and there are waitresses that can get your drink while you mingle with friends.

omg, it was pretty frustrating to look out and see the trash that leaked out of 216 or was on its way to 216 at the bar Saturday, demanding bloody marys & bud lights & complicated shots so that we were too busy to get to our cool patrons. we need a secret c-villain hand signal or code word that you can scream out so we can serve you first.
I heard that the bartender from Kiki is going to be working Saturdays at OXO now. Sweet.
Perhaps we could make a “C” and a “V” with our hands? Hand gestures aside, that bar just isn’t set up for that kind of traffic. Maybe you should have another “satellite bar” that’s set up in another area of the joint that could just give out bottled beers/bourban & tequilla shots.

Can I call you out? Sorry if this is a buzzkill. Sha nay nay is one of the smoking-hot bartenders. I can’t believe OXO has gone from being one of my favorite restaurants to one of my favorite bars too. So glad.
