Road trip

I [heart] Charlottesville, but there are great events taking place in DC this week –and every week– that would be well worth checking out.

Monday: Patrick Wolf @ the Black Cat, 1811 14th NW, $15 Details
This will be a show… And this guy’s gonna get real famous.

Tuesday: Jose Gonzalez @ the 9:30 Club, 815 V NW, $20 Details
If you can’t go, just download “Crosses.” Great song.

Thursday: Paulo Nutini @ the 9:30 Club, 815 V NW, $20 Details
Ladies, if you like being sung to by shaggy tattooed skinny-jeans boys (like me), then you’ll like Paulo. He’s often described as “cute,” and I’m sure he loves that.

Friday: Hirshhorn After Hours, Independence and 7th SW, $12 at door Details
Museums after-hour wine tours and receptions are not new, but I think the Hirshhorn’s is. Go and tell me about it! I can’t this time.

Weekend: Maryland Renaissance Festival, 10-7 through October 21, Crownsville, MD Details
It’s my featured event. This is the most fun you can possibly have on a Saturday. Eat a turkey leg, see the sword swallower, take in some jousting, have your face painted– you will not regret the drive!

Sunday: Redskins vs. Lions, Landover, MD Details
Football. ‘Nuff said.

Leaving DC in a bit to come back down to CVille. Didn’t go to any events or do anything outstanding, but I am bringing back 4 cases of 3 buck chuck from Trader Joes.

50 bottles of wine - should last me a day or two.

Hah! Just came back from DC yesterday and also made a run to TJ’s for hooch among other things (great dried pasta, blistered peanuts, olive oil, etc.). In addition, saw the Hopper exhibition at the National Gallery, enjoyed a kick-ass Brandi Carlisle show at the 9:30 club surrounded by LOTS of females making eyes at Brandi (hmmmm…), chowed down good Ethiopean grub after the performance at Dukem on U St.

Also had great sandwiches and beer at The Liberty Tavern in Clarendon, great pizza and beer at Rustico , great beer at Overwood, great fish and chips at Eamonn’s Dublin Chipper (all in Old Town Alexandria) and OK Tex-Mex (and Diet Pepsi) at the Rio Grande Cafe in Ballston. Also stopped at the Penzey’s shop in Falls Church for some cool and funky spices. Big cities are fun. Time to dry out.

You watch football, Lilith? What an enigma you are. After the game, you should head over to the Melvins show at The Black Cat on U Street.

good call on Old Town KCB - always preferred King Street to downtown dc. CVille could use a real Irish pub like Murphy’s or Ireland’s Own.
