Not a Tommy Ramone or jawharp fan? Then go to the Satellite Ballroom to see Sons of Bill with Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit (nee Drive-By Truckers) with The Whigs. You’ll need to go early to see Bill’s sons, though– they’re the opening band. If I could re-order the bill, I would.

No way, the Whigs are playing tonight at Satellite Ballroom? The band went to high school with me. Somehow I missed the fact that they were back in town…
Jason Isbell rocks. He’s doing an in-store at the Albemarle Square Plan 9 this afternoon. Wish I could make it.
Sons of Bill, eh? Knowing nothing about the band but the little blurb they gave in the cville after winning best of whatever, I gotta say Im offput.
Im sympathetic to how hard it is to make a living as a musician, but… Such smarm. It burns.
/flame on.
I’ve heard some talk about town about our little blurb in the C-ville after winning the best musical group category, and I wanted to clear some stuff up. We found out that we had been selected while we were over seas, and Brendan asked us to write a funny/joke acceptence speech for the issue. Our bass player Seth Green, who is the our resident witty prose writer and writes all of our website updates, took up the task. He meant the speech to be funny, and to show that we don’t take ourselves or awards too seriously, but it seems that a whole bunch of folks didn’t realize that the speech WAS INTENDED TO BE COMPLETELY 100% A JOKE! Hell, my mom burned our CD and always asks to be on the guest list, we’re not a bunch of bitter musicians (though we are broke). In hind site I would have done things differently, written it myself, and let everyone in charlottesville know how much their support means to us, and anyone who comes out to our shows knows this. Its hard being in a full-time touring band while still trying to hold down full time jobs, and the people who like the music (burned CD’s, guest lists, and all) are everything. I feel bad that people were turned off by the speech, but it was just intended to make people laugh.
