Extra-early Weekend Preview

The only event that really matters in my book is the opening of Wes Anderson’s “The Darjeeling Limited” at Regal Downtown on Saturday. It’s about damn time!

Any thoughts on his best film so far? Am I the only one who is excited about this?

I saw it this past week end. Basically, when they’re on the train (aka The Darjeeling Limited) it’s freaking awesome, and when they’re not on the train it gets a little slow. I need to see it again though, as I forgot to toke up before hand.

Don’t forget the short film Hotel Chevalier paralleling The Darjeeling Limited at http://www.hotelchevalier.com/

Life Aquatic is by far his best. There’s so much going on in that film.

    COLOR ME SUPER FUCKING STOKED.

townietoolong: Life Aquatic? Really!?!?!? You’re the first person I’ve ever heard say that. I think it’s Royal Tenenbaums for me.

It makes sense, though, that townietoolong would like Life Aquatic the best if he/she thought some parts of Limited were too slow. If you’re looking for something where “there’s so much going on” on the surface, then Life Aquatic’s it.

Personally I think Rushmore is tops because it’s not really a Wes Anderson movie; it’s a Bill Murray movie.

While I like Royal, I think Rushmore is the best. Both are better than TLA in my book. TLA was a great idea-but it just felt like something was missing. So in my book Rushmore > Royal Tenenbaums > The Life Aquatic. I’d probably rank their soundtracks in the same order. If you don’t have them, you should get them, at least the first two. Great albums IMO (no filler, even the soundtrack music, done by Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo fame). Lastly, if you get the British import of the Royal soundtrack you get the instrumental Hey Jude, performed by the “Mutato Muzika Orchestra” (Mothersbaugh I think), and Paul Simon’s Me & Julio.

agreed strongly on the soundtracks. for me, tenenbaums definitely takes the cake. i think that had better comedic timing than any of the others. bottle rocket is my 2nd favorite.

im optimistic that his cinematography will do india justice.

My biggest fear for Darjeeling is Jason Schwartzman, as he’s basically drained the life out of everything he’s been in since Rushmore. He was completely frustrating in Huckabees, his guest appearance in Freaks and Geeks was grating and he was totally limp in Marie Antoinette (okay, so the whole movie was limp but he added nothing). I just hope he’s gotten old enough to get over his apparant need to seem as akwardly indie cool as possible, like he moments alway from muttering “modest mouse” under his breathe incesantly and staring at the camera for approval.

That being said, Life Aquatic is my favorite. It changes every time I watch it.

I still haven’t seen Life Aquatic because people told me it was the suck, but now my interest is sparked.

Life Aquatic totally sucks. I mean, it’s pretty, but has little else going for it.
It’s hard to admit, because W.A.’s previous films are so great, but it’s a turkey.

Darjeeling was lovely, but like all of Mr. Anderson’s films, I want to see it again before I give it a full review. That being said, I now have a serious crush on Adrian Brody.
