    From The Hook –

“We estimate it was a total of just over 5,000 people,” says Pavilion Manager Kirby Hutto. “That’s way beyond anything we’ve ever done. I’m surprised we could fit everyone in here.”

What traffic jam? If you’re a true “cvillain” you could have figured out a number of very easy ways to get downtown at any point yesterday. The parking garage on Water Street also was not full.

After the event, Tim Kaine and his posse came to Guadalajara and ate at the table beside ours. I think he had the Special Michoacan - a fine choice.

To me, this just means that there were 5,000 gullible schmucks who were willing to shell out $29 to hear a diatribe about “the politics of hope” rather than a substantive account of how to fix a very broken political system.

I’d be happy to support Obama in theory (as a liberal Dem myself), but I can’t understand the hype regarding a candidate who has not, to date, outlined anything remotely resembling a plan to correct what will be eight years of progressively serious deteriorations in civil liberties, congressional oversight, and foreign policy/diplomacy.

I should also mention that his anti-war stance was an easy one to adopt…not being in Congress for the vote, and all.

Am I the only one waiting for Obama (and, to be fair, every other Dem candidate) to actually grapple with difficult issues? I refuse to vote for another “not Bush” after begrudgingly voting for Kerry in 2004. Dems are a pathetic bunch right now–no unique policies and an identity that exists only in opposition to the GOP.

we were on our way to movie , when we decided to stop by and eavesdrop from afar on what Obama would have to say for himself. In the middle of Governer Tim Kaine’s intro Obama’s “people” opened up all the gates and let everyone through FOR FREE..so not everyone had to pay to get in.
What traffic?????thanks to all the smug bike riders in Cville*wink* there was plenty of parking available!

That’s more than a bit overstated. Obama has plenty of specific plans outlined on his website, and it’s not as if he spent 50 minutes last night saying “hope hope hope hope-ity hope. HOPE!” He talks about his specific plans. The media covers the horse race instead, and badly at that:

Three out of four cheeseburger enjoyers in South Dakota prefer Barack’s hankerchief to Dodd’s satchel. Fascinating!”

    Bah.

  9. […] drew a mere 500 supporters on Saturday.  Compare that to Obama who did 4,000+.  Looks like someone isn’t as popular.  […]

  10. […] In other news… We have a drought. The Crozet Music Festival and Chocolate Festival happen. The Virginia Film Festival hosts Turturro and Sayles. Barack Obama campaigns to a crowd of 4,000+. […]
