Deep Voice + Annoying Helium Voice = ?

Ok gang, this is my first post. Please be gentle.

I’ve been living in the town for a few years now, and I think I get it. You know - the citywide push at being hip, progressive, liberal, artsy. And I dig it, for sure…don’t get me wrong. But I do NOT get the “Daily Feed” that gets played every morning on WNRN. I love the station, and the Acoustic Sunrise show is great. But this thing makes me change the channel every damn day. I hear it as an attempt at satire, but I don’t see why a great station like this would play it. I miss the concept of the whole thing, especially the intended humor in the tagline “Another totally unslanted opinon by yet another editor of the Daily Feed”.

Here’s how I see it: I get a nice combo of good cop/bad cop meets Alvin and the Chipmunks meets one of those Saturday Night Live skits that is just so bad you wonder how it made it on the air.

Am I alone on this one? Has anyone ever heard a good one or a funny one?

91.1 is where the hot fire’s at. I’d listen to the Corner before 91.9 these days. I think it’s absolutely insane that WNRN still plays fucking nu-metal. Ecch! The Boombox is fun, though.

    And yes, Daily Feed sucks.

Great first post! And I couldn’t agree more. I feel bad they probably pay for that subscription.

I played a recording of the daily feed backwards once by accident and ended up ritualistically slaughtering my neighbor’s chihuahua.

    /out, out, damned spot

not everything on NRN sucks. I have a show every Tuesday night from midnight to 2am that is nothing but mashups. It is the newest show on the station and it took the place of the aftermath. So tune in and give it a listen sometime. Yes that was a plug!

    XSV

Plug on, xsv. I didn’t know you were on the airwaves. I’ll definitely check it out.

I loooove the daily feed. I’ll change the channel just to hear it. I think the political satire goes over y’all’s heads (or you just don’t find it funny?!?). I’m already wearing a bulls-eye, so go ahead and tell me what a god-damn stupid fuck-wad I am.
Some of it can be a little stupid, but it usually puts a smile on my face.

I don’t listen to NRN, but looks like I’ll be tuning in for your show XSV. I friggin love mashups.

In other news, Mike Friend smells terrible. Whenever he is around the gym (which seems to always be the same time as me), I have to arrange my workout to be far away from him. He also acts odd and gives me weird looks…dude creeps me out.

Yes, Oy, again and again. 10 years of therapy and finally I have something to talk to that bitch about. Now that I’m a full fledged misogynist, maybe I qualify to take some graduate courses at that school over by Bodos on 29… Virginia School of Misogyny? No?

definitely tune in Tim. We try to have a bunch of new stuff every week so it doesn’t get too repetative. Oy if you ever want to spin on the air I can arrange it. Only rule is nothing but mashups for the entirety of the show.

Sorry meant “Belmont Yo” not “Oy”….Although I think hearing Oy spin would be an interesting experience

not to keep beating a dead horse, but nrn is just commercial radio with a non-profit license. I agree with dijonbray about wtju being the local station for quality. Although I would be not be unhappy if the late night rock portion of tju (excluding Professor Bebop) joined the nrn late night crowd. Or better yet, let the afternoon folks make the move as well. While the tju rock department is outstanding with their knowledge, it just is the one segment of the station that does not appeal to me personally as a listener.

Dude I have been getting annoyed at the Daily Feed since the 80s when it used to play on the now-defunk WFHS.

WTJU is the uberjam and WNRN is pretty awful. It really is commercial radio with a community license. From what I hear, Mike Friend is an awful person. Horatio, having the balance between late-night rock and daytime folk, classical and jazz is what makes TJU so awesome. Radio Wowsville and Radio Freedonia are probably two of the best radio shows in Virginia and the Hep Imp show is one of the most unique things I’ve ever heard. Also, your boy Prof. Bebop (aka Principal David Rogers), while providing a community service for his continual recognition of “In Shades”, is a fan of the late night.

I get dizzy and puke, so, yeah, very interesting. Especially when I puke in a theremin…

Starks, the rock music during the day just offends my ears. If it were late night only, that would be great. I just don’t think it has a place during the day. So I will retract my original suggestion to say that rock on TJU should be moved to the late night (say 11 pm to 6 am). Again, the rock folks at WTJU know their music just as well as the other volunteers at the station. So they deserve a place on radio in Central VA.

I think The Daily Feed is hilarious–sometimes. Other times, I’m underwhelmed.
