“Special”

From First Impressions of Hell by S. Adams:

These flocks would stroll down to the corner billiards club, Orbit (if you recall, an orbit is an imaginary circular dance electrons perform around the nucleus of an atom), or further down, a pizza pub called Mellow Mushroom (which has a ’special’ pizza unlisted on the menu you can only order it if you know who to ask).

Special pizza?

And S. Adams, I get that you’re a Masters student and not into the college thing, but… not everyone at UVA dresses like that and your negative reinforcement is how the stupid stereotype happens, and can’t we celebrate mothers and daughters being more open with each other than ever before, even about hooking up?

    Um, it’s the Dec and they err on the hipster. That means they are superior to everyone else, even though it takes them longer to dress.

    Seriously, I like the Dec for the most part, but how many of these types of articles are they going to recycle over the years?

    I have nothing but love for the Dec, and I find it amusing that even though the staff cycles in and out every four years, they still maintain the same bitterness towards their peers. I appreciate a self-hating hoo.

    Maybe special pizza is like the special pizza that a defunct-due-to-incarceration pizza place delivered years ago. If someone ordered anchovies on their pizza, it was code for ordering a bag of weed in a pizza box (not sure if the pizza also came in the box, but that would have been nice).

    Who knew Cville had the drug delivery biz going before NYC?
