Great show. Amazing it’s just the 3 of them. No keytars or anything.

Could we get a real review instead of a two line blurb?

I was plesantly surprised last night. I usually think canned setlists make for boring shows, but they seemed to have a lot of fun last night. Stewart was clearly the crowd favorite. I think most people were a) aware that he’s from Virginia or b) of the opinion that he’s a superior musician or c) impressed by his rig, which included a gong, kettle drums, ramdom percussive instruments, and the standard drum kit.

The crowd, as usual that these overpriced affairs, had a large number of sticks in the mud who sat or stood with their arms folded throughout the entire show. The boxes looked like they were full of funeral goers with one exception. The last box on Sting’s side of the arena was rocking out. Me thinks they were enjoying the beverage service.

Sting made many references to Charlottesville…a nice change from Bob Dylan, who I adore, but who clearly doesn’t even know what planet he’s on anymore. The double encore was kind of funny…after the first one, Andy Summers paced a little witn the spotlight on him, trying to get the crowd to do something to show they wanted more music. Quel surprise! After a few moments, back came Sting and Stewart to finish the show with songs you were sure they’d play. When they were completely done, Sting and Andy left the stage and Stewart lept to the mic and said something about how all night, Sting forgot to say that he was from Virginia (he was born in Alexandria). That got a huge cheer from the crowd.

It was a nice night. Not amazing, but a lot of fun.

    The setlist:
    Message in a Bottle
    Synchronicity II
    Walking On The Moon
    Voices Inside My Head
When The World Is Running Down
Don’t Stand So Close To Me
    Driven To Tears
    Truth Hits Everybody
    Hole In My Life
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
    Wrapped Around Your Finger
De Do Do Do De Da Da Da
    Invisible Sun
    Walking In Your Footsteps
    Can’t Stand Losing You
    Roxanne
    E:
    King Of Pain
    So Lonely
    E2:
    Every Breath You Take
    Next To You

I’ll give this another go, since I don’t think you’ve responded to my previous attempts.

What ever happened to Bruce playing at JPJ? You really got my hopes up.

I got the word about the negotiations, but not about the potential show dates.

My birdie also told me about Van Halen being in talks with JPJ, but the deal was never made.

My birdies said the same thing, Upstart. Similar birds, no doubt.

I just asked both middle fingers, but they dont know shit about any upcoming shows - ‘cept of course my cafeteria gig tonight, *cough cough*, but thats hardly gossip worthy. Now if we could get ‘nay nay to hang from the ceiling fans… well… we might have something.

They were pretty good. On the upside, they all still play incredibly well, and they played the songs well. On the downside, Stewart looked like he was fighting a cold or flu, and a lot of the songs were played in lower keys, which really made some of them sound kind of funny. I guess Sting doesn’t have the high range he used to. Also, his bass playing had a much more relaxed feel than 25 years ago–he played more behind the beat than in front, like he used to. It was fun though, and they put on a good show.

i don’t know how to quote previous comments, but this is from your post a while back:

“The acts that are definitely on the schedule: The Police, Bruce Springsteen, and Elton John. ”

So that sounds like a little more than just negotiations. If you are going to go around claiming credit for breaking the news that bands are coming to town (Police), when you are just in fact making a list of rumored bands, at least fess up and say you were wrong when one on your list doesn’t end up being true.

Now if Bruce circles back around this way before heading to Europe, I’ll come back and eat my crow.

Rat, JPJ hasn’t announced any concert past November 23rd yet. Relax.

Bruce is doing a second US leg in the Spring.
