Tonight: Pat McGee Band with Josh Kelly and the Sons of William
Pat McGee brings me back to the days of beating guys’ kegstand records in skirts, skipping class to rope-swing into a river, and browsing collegehumor.com pictures (I was pre-video, people) at 4am. And I won’t be seeing their concert tonight for that reason. It had a time and a place… and OH MAN it was fun.
But Sons of William? Who the hell do they think they are? They’re sons of William, apparently.
Sunday: Slightly Stoopid with Fishbone and the Supervillains
Slightly Stoopid is a great live band! Like Pat McGee, though, I’ve only ever see them play in a venue where the pot smoke can naturally ventilate into the atmosphere, and I recall there being more of it at Slightly Stoopid’s shows. I have two concerts by each under my belt, and if I had to pick one to see, I’d go back to Slightly Stoopid. The music is happy music, for lack of a better word, pot or not. I also think Slightly Stoopid is slightly more famous, and I’m definitely of the school of thought that I should see concerts that future generations will be impressed to hear I attended. Yes, I am that determined to be a cool old fogie.
Thursday: Melt Banana with Hex Machine and Worn in Red
I know nothing about the bands except that their band names ROCK, so they must rock too.

Sons of William should play with Sons of Bill… it would be like a family reuinion! Hmmm… toss in sisters of mercy, mothers of invention, big brother and the holding company and grandma funk as well.
Melt Banana is wierd japanese girl indy post rock insanity, and yes, it is an awesome name. My favorite band name is still “JFKFC”. Yours?

Melt Banana is absolutely bonkers, and their live show is definately a spectacle worth checking out.

Let’s be honest. We couldn’t think of anything cool enough to write back. Do you remember how awesomely the Godfather and Jurassic Park and Weekend at Bernie’s ended? And then they made sequels? Yeah. Sometimes, you have to let something end. So own your thread-killing, dammit.

To start off, you mention ‘Weekend at Bernie’s” in the same sentence with ‘The Godfather’, and then you go on to imply that ‘Godfather 2′ shouldn’t have been made?!?!?! WHAT?!?! You got some ’splainin to do.
I liked Godfather 2 a lot. I might even own it. But would I not have been okay without? I’m pretty sure I could have died happy with one Godfather. Similarly, I genuinely liked Weekend at Bernie’s, 1 and 2. (I never claimed not to be a simple person.) But when I have a corpse rotting for days on end, in a sequel, I have to ask myself, is this contrived? can I fake suspension of disbelief? is Jonathan Silverman hot enough for me to shut up and enjoy the $#!% movie?

Godfather 3 was a waste of film and Al Pacino’s time, but 2?!? While probably not a better film than Gdfth 1, its arguably almost its equal, an would be a great film on its own had 1 not preceded it [G1 is #3 on AFI’s top 100 list, G2 is #32] G2 set the bar for all subsequent sequels, and none have come even close. I would be ‘ok’ had film photography never been invented, thats not the point, its a great movie, and to argue any different…well…
Its like arguing that Star Wars was good enough on its own, and we didn’t need Empire…perhaps true, but I’m not sure what the point is when the sequel is worthy of the original and would stand on its own as a great movie? (now the recent SW episodes I’ll agree with you on, but not the first 3)

Screw Godfather II. I think we are forgetting the greatest sequel of all, the only one that was able to trump the original, the greatest film of all time… Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze.
