Thursday is the new Thursday

I couldn’t decide if Thursday is the new Friday or the new Tuesday, then I realized it’s… Thursday. There is a LOT to choose from for your evening entertainment. Which would make it normal.

Mozely Rose at the Outback Lodge

It’s a little bit country, a little bit rock ‘n roll. I’ve seen this band perform many times. I might even know someone in the band. I might be with the band. Oh f* it. I’m the drummer. But seriously, it’s a great show.

Straight Punch to the Crotch at Club OBL

If southern rock ain’t your cup of oolong tea with soy milk and Splenda, then go downstairs (aka “Down Under”) and see one of the greatest bands EVER to come out of Charlottesville. The world just doesn’t know it yet. But oh yes, it will. Props to the band for having a name that can make me giggle every time I say it. And hello, PLAYING A KEYTAR.

Read their hilarious C-VILLE preview here!

Beaujolais Nouveau Release Party at Zinc

Pucker up, mes cVillainais et cVillainaises. Nouveau Beaujolais, as we Americans call it, is often overlooked, because let’s be honest, it’s often sour. Sweeten up to the tunes of Sarah White & the Pearls. Yes, I did just go with the obvious play on words and say “sweeten up.” No, I’m not sorry I wasn’t more creative. I’m sure Sarah is very sweet. I could have said, “Speaking of tarts…” but that would be so unlilithlike, n’est-ce pas? And yes I will write in French for every Zinc listing EVER merci beaucoup.

Kevin Everson at the Bridge

UVA art and film professor Kevin Everson is showing his work at the Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative, and I strongly recommend this event. Everson’s films have been shown at MoMA, the Whitney, Sundance, New York Underground, CinemaTexas, and Rotterdam, to start. Word on the street is that UVA’s got an unofficial film school going, and Everson’s a great influence on the young talent.

Straight Punch to the Crotch is one of my favorite local bands. See you there, after I get my fill of young imported red table wine.

Hey Yo, I heard a rumor you’d be down at the cafeteria tonight, chugging (beers… not any thing else..)and chooning… true? Or am I confusing you with another dj who plays disco at a reasonable volume for those table-climbing kool-kids at Escafe (a delightful place to eat I’ve heard)?

How do two bands not named Melt-Banana (playing at the Ballroom)make the list? Based on past performances it’s probably going to be the best show in Cville since Bonde do Role.

It was, two minutes ago. I had to give people time to rearrange their social calendars.

Starks, I didn’t ignore them at all! I already gave them coverage :)

Yo Starks, this is Golden Arms. Did you ever call Bobby Steels back? I’m over here with Noodles and I got Lucky Hands with me. Remember when you quoted from “7th Chamber” and people freaked out and called you a racist, as if you were Don Rodriguez from the Bronx? It’s the good life you know.

    Chuck,
George duboeuf is a pro when it comes to commercialize his stuff, i know he only keeps the good stuff for France and the European market while he sends mediocre to plain bad stuff to the US.
Zinc will be carrying the following Beaujolais nouveau ” jean paul brun terres d’orees Beaujolais nouveau 2007). He is a well respected producer in the burgundy region and even if nobody is claiming that wine to be great it’s worth giving it a try. Plus for $4 a glass for tonight it won’t hurt your wallet that badly.

You can’t hate on Beaujolais Nouveau… that’s like dissing Santa Claus. The fun is in the tradition, even if it is the kool-aid of wine.

Is it really tradition? I know it was at one point, but now it’s just a marketing gimmick. I love Beaujolais, but too many Nouveaus have that unpleasant banana-y taste. I typically steer clear.

Dave, come on by tonight and give it a try , it’s not the best wine ever but i just tasted some and it’s pretty good .
    Lys, thanks for getting IT.
As i recall must of you drink green beer on St Patrick’s day, think about that for a sec. you can’t tell me that’s good beer the are using .

I can’t name many traditions that aren’t also marketing gimmicks these days, but this one sure beats overpriced roses and yet another opportunity for me to forget to send my mother a card.

So what your saying in essence is… the Nouveaus are passé.

    What’s french for oxymoron?

I thought the kool aide of wines was Yellow Tail. That stuff doesn’t even taste like wine.
