Fans of Jim Waive and the Young Divorcees may be interested to know that Mr. Waive dropped by the Duck Blind recently with a final mix of his band’s upcoming as-yet-untitled cd. (His intentions were innocent: I’ve got a big stereo.)

Expect a much tighter, studio-type sound than previous Waive incarnations. The disc features the same quartet you may have seen at Atomic Burrito on a Wednesday over the past few years: Jim on guitar and vocals, Charlie Bell on steel and slide guitars, Anna Matijasic on fiddle and Jen Fleisher on upright bass, with the addition of the Acorn sisters on a couple tracks for vocal spice. Matijasic moved somewhere (Pennsylvania, I think) not long ago, but came back to help flesh out the record with her long-time bandmates anyway.
Good thing. The cd sounds pretty kickass. Maybe more accessible than earlier Waive records, partially due to the masterful engineering of Rod Coles and partially because the new songs seem a little more direct. (The blackened dirge “Why I Hunt” comes to mind.) And there is some killer playing by both Matijasic and Bell.
The cd is due out early 2008.

Sorry Cripsy. I keep posting at the same time as people. It’s because I’m a bad person. Folks, stay tuned for the release of the holiday house decorations showdown.
Oh just leave it up, lilith. Its not like scrolling is all that hard.
Yes, yes, please tell me more…zzzzzzzzz….
I know I can’t wait for the new CD! I am biased but I think it is sounding great. Think Jim’s songs are awesome and am glad to have stuff that good to hear locally. Already looking forward to the release party.
Yay! Did someone say ‘ CD release party’?? I’m also in the biased category, but as a longtime fan, I’m excited for the new record to come out too! It sounds great. One of the real highlights of living in C’ville for sure…

Jim Waive is the nicest man ever! And I love his band. But really back to little acorn: You are in an ad??? What’s it like being famous??
As I am in self-imposed exile in ‘Mayberry ‘54/’07′, I does my heart good that so many of you were as enthusiastic about the up coming release as I am. Still have not heard it. Will hear it this weekend. Talk it up, especially those who don’t live in town. That would be good, real good. Thanks!
