I had an OXOme time

There’s been a lot of stink going ’round about OXO being lame or on a downswing. But…I had never been, save a dinner or 2.

Team Tuffy rolled in there last night around 11 and stayed for a while, and it was really a lot of fun. The sous chef DJ was playing some nice, dance-able stuff, and the barkeeps were nothing if not lovely, courteous, and making nice drinks. Por example: I asked for a drink with gingerbeer…they didn’t have any. Fair enough. So the bartender took the time and effort to make me something that she thought would be comparable. It wasn’t, but it was a nice drink nonetheless and the extra little sumpin’ was appreciated. And, it was PACKED. People were getting down! The dancefloor was full and people seemed to be having a good time.

After a night of bopping around town from Zocalo to the Bang to OXO, the last stop was certainly the best. Hopefully along the same vein as Zinc will be on Thursday.

Team Minty rolled into OXO at about 12:30 and witnessed a half-empty bar, a half-full dance floor (with some rather atrocious dancing, IMO, and I’m no Helio Castronueves) and a couple of ladies making out as the offbeat entertainment. I did think the sound quality was far better than my past few outings, though.

    Escafe was really quiet - no dancing whatsoever despite B-Yo’s inspired set list. If there had been any XX’s in house I would have undoubtedly been making some confessions on a dance floor. (Loved the “White Wedding” remix, Yo!)

    And while wine tastings on Fridays at Market Street Wine have been getting steadily busier, last night was maddening. Their people are pretty unflappable but it was impossible to work up to the bar and progress through the flight. I kept having to slink down the aisle to where the ports are stored just to have some quiet before repeating the cycle. I know it’s claustrophobic in there to begin with, but some people need to show a little consideration for the patrons behind.

    mintyfresh, agreed about Market Street. Most people’s definition of “awkward” is very tolerable for me. But I find it stressful to go in there for the tasting, no matter how kind the staff is (and it is, very). My strategy is to get to the counter, shoot each cup, go to the next, and finish the set under 60 seconds. Just kidding.

    What about a queue in a circle, going toward the red zins and back around to the sale wines? Am I being too Mr. Belvedere?
