Will Hop For Beer

[pic]

Ok.. So, I’ll start with admitting a complete and deep shame for even posting this.

I’ve been on crutches for over 2 months now and up to this point, they have confined me to a bar-less lifestyle. I’ll probably be requiring them for at least another month or two. Now that my cast is off, I’m getting a bit stir crazy and need to have a little bar time to bring me back to level. Up to this point, my phobia has been trying to maneuver a packed bar on crutches and getting knocked off-balance, or even possibly forgetting about the whole broken foot thing myself and trying to stand up normally. Either one could reset the clock and get me back in a cast, or God forbid… back into surgery. The question that I pose to you is this:

Where are some bar suggestions that consist of as few floors/levels as possible?

Places that I’m least likely to have to navigate a packed crowd?

Somewhere that I’m likely to get a good bar seat, or that has people taking orders from tables?

Have a good beer menu… as I’ll probably be avoiding the liquor until I don’t have to worry about accidentally standing on the bad foot?

Accessibility from the main strip of the mall and minimal walking distances between other bars is a plus…

Most of the places that I used to attend are generally disqualified for one of the above reasons. From what I’ve read on here, X-Lounge could be a contender due to the great drink service. More recent reviews make it sound like it may be too packed these days or has passed its’ prime? I know that I need to just get out and find my own comfortable spot, but it’d be great to have some recommendations as to where to start.

I apologize for such a self-serving post, but I really didn’t want to steal any of the other thread’s reply chains. As a reward, you may get to see my own rendition of Lisa Turtle’s famous ‘The Hop’ dance. But, probably not.

    Don’t listen to crud buster…

    Zocalo
    Escafe
    Blue Light
X Lounge (their upstairs is rarely occupied)
Buddhist (their upstairs is not that great)
    three.
    Mellow (most tables)
    Satellite Ballroom shows
If you can handle a few stairs, South Street (probably worth it… or just make your friends buy you beer)

I actually ventured out last night and didn’t have any problem getting around. Fortunately, after a few drinks the the crutches are pretty fun again. I still think that getting around a packed bar may be more trouble than it’s worth, but stairs and distances really aren’t a big deal after all.

    crud buster - you’re evil.

    Thank you.

Donk - try X, it’s usually not too packed except on weekends and they have nice big comfy couches near the door where you can sit and have beautiful ladies bring you tasty beverages

Yeah, milk the cast for sympathy. Definitely.

I think if you confine your going-out drinking to Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, most places downtown would be reasonably uncrowded enough for crutches not to be an issue.

Then, for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, you buy three kegs of decent beer and give us your address.

If thats you in the pic, I’d say hit up ‘the little gym’ for sippy-cup specials.

lilith: I’m out of the cast these days. I have to wonder if people are skeptical about the crutch usage since I get to wear normal shoes. I believe I might’ve dispelled any suspicion at the bar last night by showing off the giant surgery incision on my ankle. That’s right. I’m waaaaaay classy.

h-d: Yeah… not the guy. I’m guessing that Thor or whoever reviews the posts added it to make my otherwise boring post a little less painful. Oh… and to fuel the inevitable ‘Is that you?’ questions.

We started out at McGrady’s for trivia, then played some foosball upstairs at Orbitz, caught a friend of a friend’s gig at Michael’s Bistro, and ended the night with a Wild Turkey at LittleJohns. The Corner can be a lot of fun when it’s not a game weekend (or a weekend at all).

There was a good crowd at McGrady’s and trivia was fun. We were out of Orbitz too early to tell what kind of crowd they had, and Michael’s wasn’t very crowded at all.

They’re tough to keep track of since they’re always awkwardly long. There were several good ones, but the only ones that I remember are…
The Sex Panthers: We’re really quite pungent.
My wife sucks at wrestling, but you should see her box.

The puzzle sheet that they gave out after the first round was pretty neat, but I couldn’t figure out if it actually contributed to our point total or not?

Hey, maybe think about an inflatable cast when you go out, just in case. Beats having to go under the knife again.
    something like this:
