The coolest thing I read about was “Surrounded Islands,” inspired outdoor art exhibit, named “Let There Be Light” at PVCC. From 6PM to 9PM, this Friday ONLY, “Light-centered artworks illuminate the outdoors on the grounds surrounding the V. Earl Dickinson Building as the longest night of the year approaches.” Expect awesome outdoor light artwork. This is going to be really cool and it’s only tonight. Don’t miss it. We’re going. Read more at the DP.
You can go see the Christmas Carol at either the Paramount or the Blackfriar Theatre in Staunton. Or go, for something a little different. We’ve heard David Sedaris’ Santaland Diaries is pretty good. Check out one of his recordings after the break. The coolest thing about Blackfriar is they have a “pay what you can” price for most shows. Rock on!
Bars? What have you. As the weather gets colder, I prefer cozy, smaller and warm places. I’ll be switching my drinking habits to C&O, Court Square, Kiki and thunder mountain (you can’t get in, don’t ask).

Thanks Thor! We have a new, really yummy food menu too, and some cozy Christmas lights….oh, and SARAH tonight:)
love the new kiki food (Israeli/Middle Eastern stuff).
Except the falafel, it’s falawful.
(actually, it rocks and it might be my favorite thing there, I just wanted to all Algonquin Round Table on y’all with “falawful”)
kiki dish = falafel
bill o’rielly = falawful
What is thunder room?
bill o’reilly = fullawful
can we come to thunder room tonight?
is Mad Max gonna be there?
oy, go to the gym!
in an hour. gotta a shiatload of work to do first (obviously!)
(closing down web browswer, opening up Excel….)
Fireside at South Street (not on the bar side) is nice, IF you can get it. Lounging on the couches before a blazing fire with a cold one is a nice way to end the day. But I agree. The little places really are more cozy in winter.
I think that Tina is skipping thunderdome/room this week. She has to go stare angrily at Ike’s newly-turned grave.
We two can go to thunder room, but only one can leave.
agreed thatgrrl - had dinner with a lovely young lady, who in no way is also posting in this thread, the other night on those couches - no fire (it was the 70+ degree day).
Oddly enough - our food was sub-par that night (first time that’s ever really happened to me at SS)
(ok ok, REALLY closing the browser now…)
ugh - you want “thunder room”, you should’ve been in my bedroom last night! The same lovely young lady and I had dinner at the Guad last night, with predictable results…
(I don’t care what y’all say, I love the guad)
(ok, ok REALLY REALLY closing the browser now)
Definitely check out the “Light” exhibit at PVCC, it’s supposed to be great.
So embarrassing. Last night, I dreamt I went to OXO and it was a $25 cover. I snuck in.
Nothing better than teh C&O on a cold winter’s night.
- wood stove heats you up as you enter
- barry always poors a nice (ie very) stiff V&T
- dark walls, dusty light bulbs, and nicotine air complete the mood
Now if only it would snow
Slimo: snow scheduled for tomorrow night. If you can wait that long!
Thanks ThatGrrl.
You’re nice
Ah, Court Square Tavern…
I have fond memories sitting there late into the night in the mid 80s drinking pitchers of Guinness. The phone would invariably ring and the bartender would announce to the patrons where the police had set up the DUI checkpoints so we could plan safe routes home.
I still haven’t been to Court Square, but I’ve been meaning to go since I’ve heard of it.
