I know I just did newsies, but there is some more juicy stuff going on:
A train hit a car near downtown yesterday. Reminder to idiots out there: if the warning gate are blinking and coming down and you DO NOT STOP, you deserve to get hit. [NBC]
The drought is just NOW over?! I would do some research on water levels and rainfall, but it sure does feel like we’ve gotten a lot of rain recently. I’m all for water conservation, but doesn’t it seem odd that it comes so late? [DP]
Women will have sex drive once again. A new local celebrity, Anita Clayton has a viagra for women in the works at UVA. Will spice return to older folks’ love lives? Will they sell bundled packs of Viagra/LibiGel for couples? Will cougars outnumber the rest of them? [AP]
My thoughts: LibiGel is the worst name ever. “The improvements are from 2.1 to 7.1 events per month.” Wow I’m sorry for those ladies.

The Iowa caucus is today…..thoughts? Ron Paul blimp anyone?
oh doh.. i forgot the ron paul blimp!!!!!!!
I had a really frightening experience recently. I was driving downtown at night and crossed over the tracks directly next to South Street– it’s a very small crossing– not the one next to X Lounge. My friend yelled, “TRAIN!” I was already halfway over the tracks, and sure enough, a train was approaching from the east. Had it been another 10 seconds, it would have been a significant crash. The lights were not flashing, gate was not closing…
I just mapped it. Same crossing.
Wow! That’s a very serious problem! The Blimp I mean. JK, Lilith we’re glad you’re alright, 10 secs later, and probably we’d all know who you were.
lilith…according to the news report, the accident yesterday happened at the 2nd st. crossing by X-Lounge, not at the 1st st. crossing where it sounds like your incident happened. personally, i hate the 1st st. crossing, b/c the buildings really obscure the view of the tracks. but it wouldn’t surprise me if the gates at either intersection were malfunctioning. when i worked downtown and parked on garrett st. i used to see CSX trucks out there all the time monkeying with the gates.
i did, however, see a guy skirt the gates on carlton st. a couple of weeks ago. he had to drive about a half a block at a high rate of speed in the oncoming lane to do it too, b/c there were two or three cars ahead of him who were stopping. meh. darwin will always win in the end.
Blanco Nino, thanks for the clarification. Shudder at the thought…
caroline,
Iowa Predictions–
Democrats: Barry Obama
Republicans: Nitwit Romney
For people with no lives (ahem, me), you can watch an actual caucus meeting tonight on C-Span. They are kinda fun, with uncomfortable people making small talk with neighbors that they don’t really like because their dog pisses on the azaleas, and then some guy starts the meeting and everyone sits in metal folding chairs in the living room, complete with the family photo wall and needlepoint pictures, and decide who will be the next President of the United States. Neat!
smiley, I’ll be watching too!
Smiley – When you say you have no life, so you mean you have small children, no social life, or no pulse? Cheer up, at least you have cable…
Plus, you write funny (ha ha funny that is)
Thanks, Silmo. I do what I can . . . and with 70 channels to choose from, who needs a social life!
You do have a social life, Smiley, you have cVillain.
Can I come over and watch c-span???
Huckster/Oprahama. All the more reason to ready my boat for the expatriate march to the islands. Two words: Jesus Camp. Be afraid.
Taliesin-
Jesus Camp is a truly frightening (and marvelous) documentary
What’s your problem with Obama?
Are you the Taliesin who used to live in the old Woolen Mills housing???
The problem with Obama is that he’s a politician.
SS – There are 2 of us? Who’s impersonating me? Did they wander around mumbling and wear wool sweaters and trench coats in July? Is there an echo in here…now I’m paranoid. Are you an assassin? You don’t have enough time nor do I have an inclination to explain my problems w/ all ALL of these idiots and that would include us or we the people who keep voting for any of them and believes any of their regurgitated rhetoric. I’m a tea in the harbor kind of gal. This is a light and breezy site and I prefer it that way.
I do however plan on wandering around Woolen Mills tomorrow and finding and challenging my alter-ego to a game of D & D.
by no means do i want to get into the habit of posting heavy rants on politics, but if you want a good laugh that ends with a strong sense of self-satisfaction, you should read this:
http://www.philalawyer.net/archives/platform_2006.phtml
scroll past the conversation intro and read the manifesto. it starts when you see big chunky paragraphs, and it is absolutely fantastic.
thanks parlie, I love it.
jesus camp- damn that was a scary movie….yikes.
what does Iowa know anyway.
