Cville Gobbler asks:
On my way to Lowe’s yesterday, I couldn’t help but notice the large amount of “For Lease” signs on 29. The buildings seems to cover the typical spectrum, Car Dealerships, Restaurants, Banks, Furniture Stores, etc. It looks terrible.
Is this a result of the awful economy right now? or an increase in rent? Has it always been this way, and I just never noticed it? What’s going on? Anyone have any speculation?

Speaking of increase of rent, is Starbucks on the corner closing for good or is it just being renovated? It’s closed and some build out company is doing work in there.
I’m going to vote that it’s the latter. Same deal at Blue Light.
new floors at blue light. they have a fungus problem.
Brown Auto Group built a new place a few years ago up by Walmart, so they moved their used car lot across 29N and up near Fashion Square Mall. They still own the lot/dealership next to Golden Corral, but I doubt a dealer will lease it from them, so who knows what they think they can put in there.
I have to say it’s a damn shame that A) Starbucks on the corner isn’t closing, but Fox Park (has anyone else been there?) has vastly superior coffee. I will never go to another coffee place on the corner as long as Fox Park is open. Truly awesome stuff and the guy who runs it is really nice. B) Blue Light isn’t closing? I had pangs of joy that my least favorite bar/restaurant downtown might be shutting its doors! Maybe they could just move up to the old Brown’s dealership and start a dance night or something?
Fox rox, I went there before xmas. College divey, etc.
