Weekend review

OXO
My “Going-Out Companion” and I stopped by OXO late Friday night. Here’s the deal: XSV will play about 30 seconds of a song, then transition it into another song. And the songs are ri-dic. It’s not something I could appreciate every night, but it was awesome to hear “Hang Tough,” “I Want to Sex You Up,” and “Mmmbop.” I happen to love “Mmmbop.” I was way into it, much to the amusement (or horror, maybe) of MGOC. I returned on Saturday and had way too much fun again, way too late!

Escafe
We heart belmont yo. We do. Seriously. He plays techno songs I secretly LOVE. I play them on my iPod when I’m working out, so I can appear all serious and intent on reading my New Yorker and pumping that elliptical, but inside my head, it’s Escafe on Friday.

Sam Hill’s New Year’s Party
I hear they had an awesome piano guy who played requests. I also hear it was packed, with a great Charlottesville crowd of music-lovers. And I also hear Stevie Jay was there. Were you there?

X Lounge
Awesome, obvi.

Bang!
Best service ever. Our waitress made MGOC feel like the special occasion it was. [Read the review.]

Siips
MGOC described it as a “country club party.” Accurately.

    Aw shucks, thanks lilith.

Hey! An idea! I cant get you free transit coffee, a fee eppie cookie, or any sort of free access to observationally advantageous localities BUT I got a buncha mix cd’s. I could burn up a stack of them by next friday, and toss em in my bag. Any of you come on up to the decks and announce your villianous status and I’ll hook it up. Then it really could be escafe in your head. I know I know, the tunes aint to everyone’s liking, but if you want some, I will have some.

what the hooker learned this weekend:

    - life is actually quite pleasant without blue light. i faced the weekend with a bit of disdain: most of my friends were out of town, those that were in town were sick, and blue light, my always number one stop of the weekend, was closed. i lef tthe house early on friday to drink alone and ended up having a great night, hanging out with strangers and vague acquaintances.

    - mas is still my favorite restaurant, despite my dislike of the owner.

    - sleeping with an ex is NEVER a good idea.

    - cheap rum at five in the morning is an even worse idea.

    - siips is horrible. oxo is fun. millers is always full of laughs.

I can’t help but make fun of X Lounge. I did go to Bang on Saturday night briefly, though, where I always inevitably order the most feminine drink on the menu.

Hey hipster-doofus and Uva LaGrape, now that I think about it, I think Bang is frequented by grad students more so than some other places downtown. LaGrape, y/n? I know med friends like it.

Law students seem to frequent Bang pretty regularly too…although they usually appear earlier in the night, before they make the move to X Lounge/Buddhist/someone’s basement to play beerpong.

And Ethan, don’t despair — the most feminine drinks at Bang are usually the strongest…

yet again I found myself at oxo on friday and disappointed with the service. maybe I’m spoiled, but it seems they just get sloooower every time I go. is it the bar setup, perhaps? the design more suited to restaurant pace? maybe they need to rethink the system.

Just Peachy is pretty strong. I had a good buzz afterwards, and I almost never feel anything after a single drink.

Hey LaGrape, a little meet-up at Bang!? I’m game if you are…

happyhooker, did you get the “ask at the door for ‘Steve’” instruction too late? I was there on Sat… now the staff thinks I’m CIA and not the culinary kind…
lilith, glad we got to chat a bit, sorry it was so brief, but another villain caught my attention.
duckduckgoose, Friday night was crazy, and I’ve heard the crowd was drinking more than usual (I was only there briefly), that may account for the long wait at the bar, Saturday was much more typical, you should have come back.
[I’ve heard that they’re going to do ’schoolgirl night’ with Sarah and Shannon behind the bar one upcoming weekend? Should I save you a seat, Oy? maybe they’ll let me play principle?]

HD– i did, indeed, recieve that instruction too late. unfortunately. i never made it to oxo on saturday, anyhow. ran into the ex at mas and we got along famously. a little TOO famously……

No need - if even The Rock himself is in the prime viewing position, I’ll dump him out of the chair…

I am planning a classic Irish ‘Bishops and Tarts’ house warming when the new house is complete….2 min walk from Crush. I propose a Pope Ex-communication competition and a ‘Who’s the Biggest Tart’ parade with a seasonal pie going to the winner.
Details will emerge as the dates firm….

Nice, Floozy! I was thinking I would have to crash some Feb club parties to make it to another tart and vicar thing. Still might :)

“Feb Club”, Lil. Say it ain’t so?!?!? Law student parties suck it

    silmo: both!

lilith, et al: consider this a plea to crash as many feb club parties as you like…they are much more entertaining when people other than boring old law students attend. for me, anyway.

    what are the following things:
    - tart

    Parlie,
Tart = Woman of loose morals, okay damnit a floozy
Vicar= Church of England equivalent of a catholic priest, with the main difference being their ability to marry and it would appear a slightly less voracious appetite for abusing 10 year old altar boys.
Feb Club= NFI but if it involves parties then it must be good.

I’m with parlie, what on earth is Feb Club? Is it nearly as cool as the Breakfast Club?
As a side note, I realize we are all putting our best foot forward and proving we do not NEED Blue Light to have fun, but does anyone know when it is supposed to open back up? I have a friend coming in to town at the end of the month and should Blue Light still be closed we may have to resign to getting drunk and frolicking around the mall in our red underwear with only five minutes at a time in each bar, as no other bar really has yet had the ability to keep my attention for more than that.

Feb club is the law-student tradition of attending a party every night in February. The “club” organizes so that there is, indeed, a party every night. (I think. IANALawStudent.)

  28. 07 Jan 2008 at 11:23 pmjools said:

yup. additionally, every party has a theme and attendees are encouraged to dress accordingly. themes from last year ranged from “das klub” (i.e., eurotrash), “walk of shame,” (rumpled clothes and smeared eye makeup) and “the big lebowski” (which was held at keglers).

moral of the story: law students are a classy bunch.

maybe they can have a suits at southstreet party theme.. or would that be stealing from darden?
