Weekend Preview

Wine Tasting @ Crush from 5:30 until 8:00 PM on Friday.

Tim Reynolds plays at 8PM on Saturday at Satellite. [SB]

Snow ball fights. I propose at 1AM tonight we have a snowball fight on the mall.

Charlottesville High School has a Battle of the Bands on Friday night. Any young talent out there? [FB]

HELL YES. A FLASH MOB IS FORMING IN CHARLOTTESVILLE.  Some UVA Students have decided to have a preliminary meeting for Flash Mobbing. What is a Flash Mob? It’s where you do improv with bunches of people in public spaces. We will do a post on this in the near future. Visit UVA’s Chem Hall @ 3pM on Saturday to learn more. Can a cVillain report back for us? Thanks. [FB]

Unofficial, but I’m going to try to get Dijonbray to watch football at 2 Sides again. Or maybe the Lazy Parrot. Or maybe Wild Wing, which offers WiFi.

I don’t know how to create a post, so I’m just throwing this comment in here — what in holy tarnation is Lee-Jackson Day, and why oh why does the state of Virginia celebrate it? God, it’s embarrassing enough living here without this kind of thing popping up:

Stanley, I have used wi-fi at Wild Wing. NASCAR and wi-fi. Rock.

Bookish, yeah, it’s super embarrassing. I thought it was back to being Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, because, well, I’m all for honoring our Civil War generals, but there are 350 other days of the year to pick from. Give me a f*ing break.

All I can say is I didn’t take it, just modified it. Its a mix throughout the flyers (me or stock). I maintain a rather large digital library of internet oddity from being online 12 years. I find myself in some strange corners of the tubes. Sometimes I need souveniers.

I ran my last camera over with my car, so when I have photos to take its camera phone (2MP) or work camera (7MP).

I have very few people willing to pose for crazy shit lately, anyway, since I went all weird. Im coming around though, so maybe…

There’s also a great Local Double-Header at the basement of the Outback Lodge this Saturday. Tacit Act, featuring former members of In Tenebris is up first, followed by Silent Muse. DJ AudioRapture is spinning before, between, and after the bands. Doors are @10.

Sharon Jones is definately the thing to do tonight — get your popcorn ready! Pre-gaming at LJ’s($2 Newcastles anyone?) and the Bistro.

Watching “There Will be Blood” at some point this weekend if I can actually obtain a ticket(wouldn’t you think they’d put that movie in a bigger theater than Vinegar Hill?).

Stanley: don’t know if I’ll make it for WTF Football watching this Sunday. That was fun and everything(we need to write that 2-sides review), but I missed out on $160 in tip money.

dijonbray, I whined about that just yesterday. Out loud. I like Vinegar Hill, but seriously, the art house theater? I’ve been really excited about this movie for a month– I actually thought it came through the big cinemas and left without my knowing it. So yeah. TWBB, I’ll probably catch next week on a random night when I don’t have to sit next to a loud gum popper or cell phone texter.

Tim is not hungover, but I am missing my face since it was rocked off by Cloverfield last night. You people seriously need to go see it…it’s like the really cool hipster monster movie that was never made.

Speaking of movies, what’s so bad about There Will Be Blood playing at Vinegar Hill? It scares away all the annoying 19 year olds who would sit there checking their cellphones and asking questions the whole time. Anyone interested in a cVillain trip to see it (perhaps followed by some drinks)?

44: It’s not such a bad thing, I love vinegar hill! It’s just that I would think that the popularity and buzz of the movie would warrant it a screen with more seats, and a venue that features matinees more than three days a week.

Re 46, well put. I suspect (I am so fearful of having my throat being jumped down) that VH relies on a few movies to account for a significant portion of their annual revenue. I dated a guy who worked for an independent theatre chain once, and two theatres carried one of the theatres that was a ridiculously cool money pit, and a few movies-of-the-year would carry the rest of the crapfests.
Re 47, yeah, well, I’m going to go make myself a Dom mimosa, and I just found some Lay’s.

My last three movie experiences at mega-theaters were terrible, so I didn’t mind the smaller screen and more intimate experience of Vinegar Hill (though even there some douche-bag had a double-chirp phone alarm of some kind happen twice!) There Will be Blood was the perfect film to see there, lots of extended scenes with only subtle sounds, so you want an audience that can shut the fuck up. Next time I sit in front of people who want to converse through the whole movie (Juno, and No Country..!) I’m going to get very nasty, no more turning around and scowling, that seems to work for 30 seconds at most.
