Out and about was I last night. The UVA students were back in full force. I’m happy about our once-lost bar hoppers. UVA students are just so cute and cuddly. They are Charlottesville virgins and that’s the way I like them. While I could rip on Dardenites or the L#s, I’m not going to.
Word is that Court Square actually had people in it, but the service was crappy. Kiki had the standard infatuated with Sarah crowd. As usual it looked like everyone was having a blast.
I visited Blue Light and OXO.
Blue Light? Can we say we are happy with the new floors and the cleaner booths? We are not happy that the bathrooms are still narsty. Same old see and be seen wannabees, but some hot ladies and a mixed dressed crowd
OXO? I’m not gonna lie we got a little white piece of paper while waiting in LINE… yes a line… which read:
MEMO
Due to damage to the furniture, drinks are no longer allowed on the Dance Floor.
For the same reason, drinks may no longer be placed on the curved wall. Any drinks placed there will be removed.
The memo is either the smartest piece of viral marketing (to get me to talk about my ex-crush) or insane. I mean it’s a good way to tell people to not put drinks anywhere, but hey you are serving drinks to people as a bar. You are going to get some damage. The $5 dollar cover made us turn around and run away. Did it ever fill up?

Yes, believe it or not, OXO filled up in a big way. Word is that this is the first night that they’ve instituted the $5 cover, and it is so they can retain their DJ. The DJ who, by the way, people dancing earlier and more people dancing than I’ve ever seen in there before.
But the rules…bad idea. “Oh don’t worry ladies, you can leave your drinks on the bar while you dance OR just slug them down faster so you can go dance.” And not being able to rest your drinks on the curved wall is prooty dumb too.
They’ve got to rethink their policies, I reckon.
The DJ worked in the ultra-funk, oft-forgotten intro to Three’s Company that knocked my socks off.
XSV (I assume) is badass. I tried to tell ya’ll.
Tell us more. What was the crowd like?
McF*cklebee, you’re famous, there’s a poll answer about you!
XSV’s definitely really talented.
Ok, you’ve twisted my arm.
Pretty decent crowd. I got there early, and as the crowd developed, the scene got more diverse. Sure, there was a nice mix of the dancers, the drinkers, and the meatsticks, but the XSV just plowed on thru and played to the crowd BUT still kept it really fresh with some very clever mixes (see 3’s company above).
The dancefloor: probably 30-40 on the floor after 11:30 or so with 75% of them steady dancers. Somewhere around a 30 minute residence time. Well done.
The bar: good attentive barkeeps. OXO is catching on. 3, count ‘em 3 barkeeps PLUS an outside tented bar. Never a line to drinks. And strong.
The bathroom: ok, this is a restaurant - so there doesn’t need to be a massive row of cans. But, the bathroom wait was on the order of 10 mins. So either hold it, or make like a NASA astronaut en route from Houston to Cape Canaveral and Pamper yourself.
The hawtness: Now I was with my lady escort and some friends…but, on the off chance I looked around…there was a nice array of gals. And my lady sources say that the good looking and approachable guys to creepy ratio was strongly in favor of the former.
I left at 1-ish and it was still rocking. People were surprisingly abiding to the new rules, and there was a line out the door when we were leaving.
Tuffy, could you ask your lady sources where i fit in? Keepin’ my thumb on the pulse and all
SS, I don’t reckon we’ve met, BUT, judging by the high caliber of individuals that frequent this site, I’d say you have, at a minimum, a 50% chance of landing a 50% hawt nightmate.
Nightmate and nightmare can be so close/different at the same time, no?
Truer words… Tuffy. Truer words
I appreciate the compliments everyone.
Funny thing I was having an off night last night. I had so manypeople who I knew pop in last night who wanted to talk and a lot of requests getting thrown at me so a lot of times I had less than 30 seconds to chose the next song.
It was a MADHOUSE last night! I will be there essentially every Friday, aside from the ones where I have a prior engagement.
Once again thanks for the compliments and look forward to seeing all of you again out there shaking your groove thing!
XSV
If you missed your chance to get your Sarah fix at Kiki last night, she and another smokin hot villainette will be dressing up for schoolgirl night at OXO tonight…(or at least thats what I’ve heard, can someone confirm?)
thanks doofus— i hereby confirm
I think this posts neglects to mention where all the fun was Friday night.
P.S. Blue Light re-open=WONDERFUL (atrocious bathrooms and all).
What? Schoolgirls? What a buncha skanks.
And about the cover: You don’t have to pay if you have a VIP card or are on the list.
So do cvillains count as VIPs or do we have to blow the bouncer to get in?
I’ll have you added to the list, flooze. Then blowing the bouncer can be done at your discretion. Do you want to send me a name to put on the list? I’d hate for you to have to spend your Saturday night hunting me down like a wildebeest.
LOL Doof… now you know private jokes make us sound all cliquey
as opposed to welsh jibberish?
2o4, are you out there? I heard poker would be downtown tomorrow night?
So Ms. Shenanigans, wanna add me to that list? It’s spelled S-T-U-D.
Is there poker going down? I’d love to have my money taken from me again if it’s happening.
I can help you with that darling!

Tim: Um, how about giving me your real last name and consider it done. No wait. I’ll just google “air guitar champion”.
For those not Downtown Fri night, did anyone go see Sharon Jones?
I meant to buy tix earlier, but the date snuck up on me. Went by the Satelite but was sold out. Sharon and the Dap Kings were my favorite new band of 2007 (I was going to do a big personal best of 2007, just didn’t get to it, and now seems a little late). Anyways, if you went, I’d love to hear how it was. For those of you who brought her here, I think she’s a perfect Pavillion act for the Spring/Summer/Fall. If you like soul and haven’t heard her yet, you gotta check her out.
Ten ran out of rice Friday night. How does that happen?
OT: I can’t read TMcF’s handle without thinking of this Red State Upstate clip (audio NSFW).
On the topic of handles, Esteban,
are you named for the original guitar hero? Love that infomercial.
Either way, check out Esteban Colberto. Pretty sweet.
