News from the Rumor Mill: High End Steak House + Bourbon

One accurate gossiper send in the following tip:

Just inching in the pipeline…..High end steakhouse. Second floor location.

High end Bourbon rail (Pappy Van Winkle reserve 20 year?) with potential twist in service.

Is this the rumored restaurant we talked about a while ago? Twist in service what does that mean? Like half naked servers? I assume this is on the mall. Where, besides above Escafe would this fit? Hardware store?

Charlottesville needs a REAL steakhouse. We are not fans of the current offerings.

    Half-naked servers playing Twister? Cool!

Escafe and/or Hardware seem the most likely. Not sure what else there is, in a second floor location.

I’m pretty sure this is going above the cafeteria…

    Mmmmmmmmm.

If this goes through, I think it would be a huge setback for those of us that were hoping to get an advance payday check cashing place on the DTMall. Or…maybe someone can make a mirrored storefront for all the Mall runners to look at themselves.

Yes it will be above the cafeteria. Silverchair’s new HQ will be in hardware store

can’t say i’m excited about steak (ever). but bourbon? now that i can get excited about.

Interesting. Wouldn’t have even considered that location as an option. Bet it costs a bundle to fit it out as a restaurant.

*something* is going above the cafeteria, but I don’t know if it’s this.

It already is fitted out as a restaurant, as it aready is one. I think they are closing because people “wouldn’t have even considered that location as an option”

Whuh? You’re right. I didn’t know there was anything up there.

Al Dente. I have heard WONDERFUL things, but if I’m going to splurge, I go French. (Short-lived Mario Batali obsession notwithstanding.) If this IS the new business of the Escafe owners, its interior is being completely redone, at the time I was hearing word of a large wine display as a centerpiece to the space. I could be WAY wrong, so can someone confirm/deny?

Okay THAT was my problem. I didn’t realize “the cafeteria” meant Escafe! Duh. I’ve sous chef’d in the old Eastern Standard, up there! Beautiful place. The kitchen upgrades Sean and Doug put into place, before they sold it, really were major league cool.

I have absolutely no confirmation of anything, I have only heard change is afoot, I know not what. I try not to meddle, just direct me to the electrical outlets and pour me a drink and Im good.

And yes, escafe = cafeteria = cafe = asscafe = snatchateria = the snatch… now act like you know, junior.

The owner of Al Dente is a super duper nice guy.

Now that you’ve cleared up the “cafeteria” question, what’s Silverchair?

    what’s Silverchair?

Local publishing et. al. outfit. Link. Don’t know how they snagged the URL before that crappy Australian band got it.

It’s going to be a gay Hooters…. new concept from San Fran (you’d think Byo would KNOW)… it is going to be called Poo-ters.

    Close. “Poofters”

byo, don’t go mixing those drinks with those electrical outlets, now, lest your hair go poof-ter itself. that was bad. i’m leaving now.

    THE bad place?

Stop at the convenience store and pick up $4.99 aviators, a 40, and a postcard. You can send it up your ass.

Don’t sweat it. You weren’t at the bad place. (Yet.)

I live in the bad place. Its not so bad once you get used to it. Kinda liberating actually. I still don’t want any of those things in my ass, please. Especially the 40.

And buster, thats what I do. I mix. Mixing magic feats for all you freaks on disco treats. Thats way I almost always wear a hat. Its definitely the electric puffy hair, and not the shyness.

The gossip is correct. High end, Kentucky style Restaurant featuring classy bourbon. Smoking allowed after dinner(maybe). Above Escafe. Steak and such to compete directly with Downtown Grille (can anyone confirm that the DT Grille is a chain, as I heard yesterday!??), but different from the Grille, they won’t make you fork over extra money for a salad and a side. Should open in April — but if any of my info is incorrect, it would be the opening date, as that could easily get pushed back.

Also, Al Dente is awesome. Authentic and excellent. I went there xmas eve and had an excellent meal. I’m sorry to see them moving out of Downtown — the owner is definitely super-cool and they always had the best patio in the summer. I believe Al Dente intends on simply relocating, but i do not know if he has found a location yet.
