Christian (of Christian’s Pizza) was mugged Downtown last week. Black eyes, split lip, the works. The bird also mentioned that it seemed to be a targeted attack, not random. Anyone else hear about this? Why hasn’t it made the news?
Can anyone verify?

Was this the same day they ran out of avocado? I’ve seen some angry babies down there ’round lunch time. Just curious…
haha
Seen at BlueLight, Friday night early: Christian, sporting exactly the injuries mentioned. Didn’t get a chance to talk to him, so no idea what the story actually happens to be.
Little birdie chirping about something it shouldn’t imo.
doesn’t suprise me.
Warning: drama ahead. Slam on the breaks and u-turn.
Everyone, what do you think of posts like this?
i think it can (and will) get out of control. gawk and speculate.
I know the basic story, is it appropriate to post with non specifics?
Thought I’d ask first.
i know (or, at least, i’ve heard) the basic story too. this is a local gossip board, and i think this story clearly counts as local gossip. personally, i’m not going to post anything about it because everything i’ve heard is second or third hand and definitely not verifiable. but i think as long as the anonymity of this site is maintained, discuss away.
It was a public event, but I’m not into personal attacks and speculation, so let’s just keep this one at a “Yes it happened, use your imagination to figure out the reason.”
Well, if it’s not speculation, it actually would have been nice to publish a general amount of details without names. If it happened on the mall, just for safety reasons, I’d want to know to be on the lookout for violent muggings. Just a general, “Anyone hear about a violent mugging occuring in X location?” would have been plenty.
In retrospect, the same story, without names, might have been better. If it’s verified. Being the victim of a crime (IF in fact that’s what happened to the person in question) is bad enough. Apologies for any contribution I made to fueling the flames. I seriously know nothing.
Yes, b-yo, (or anyone) let’s have some details… use ananymity and non-specifics, in necessary.
This is a gossip site! It’s in your heading.
Well there are three components to this which are tricky to navigate. One - The dragnet factor: “Just the facts mam”. Two - speculation as to motivation or ascribing blame, guilt etc. And three - Naming names or other personal bits. The first I believe to be perfectly apropriate, the other two I believe to be innapproriate. My two pennies. Yours?
@ 10 - Thor, that’s weak! Nice gossip site.
B’Yo, I’m on board with what you’re saying. Just the facts, without personal stuff or speculation, seems entirely appropriate. Local safety is a concern for all of us.
slight threadjack on the local saftey angle…
has anyone noticed the increase in aggressive panhandlers on the downtown mall in the evening? or is it just my propensity to attract burned out drug addicts with no teeth asking for change?
No threadjacking…
Someone grow a pair and tell the story…before it hits the news. That’s what this place is for
Dragnet version.
Not a random mugging, a personal assault. Happened last week. Victim was in hospital for two days. Attacker was a current or former marine who took umbrage with victim’s teatment/behaviour around an unspecified female, who may have been known to both attacker and victim. Charges may be filed, but have not yet been.
Generic enough?
i wasn’t asking for change, i was asking for whole dollar increments. i just wanted a sandwich.
made of crank.
Thanks, yo. That’s a good start.
Strangely, I’m happier it was NOT a random act…at least it cools the threat level….the “just the facts” version was okay, but I’ve seen b’yo’s ability here and would prefer a more colorful story.
Glad it wasn’t random, as well. But sorry whenever something like that happens. Thanks, ‘yo.
Two days in the hospital, these days? I hope the guy goes up for attempted murder.
I think I will leave my box of crayons out of this particular one, if you don’t mind, but thanks for the compliment.
Christian is and has been a close friend of mine. I took him to the hospital after the attack, and my family has been with him for a week helping him to recover. It was not random, it is a criminal investigation, therefore I only want to ensure cvillians of their safety on the mall and downtown ( or rather make it clear this isnt a mugging, safety on the mall and downtown I cannot ensure). Otherwise it makes me deeply sad that such GOOD people like Christian Tamm can be a victim of such a horrible beating. It has reminded me how delicate life is, how lucky we are have good people in our lives and loving children, and how to not take that for granted. This seems a little on the serious side to post on a “gossip” site, but when it is a matter of life and death, I feel setting the record straight is important.
thanks, kiki.
@18
Sorry Gobbler (and everyone else), just been waiting for a time to bring this up and seemed as good as any. no more peeps.
Well I hope I did not offend with my post kiki, as truly, it is none my business. I agree with this being a delicate topic. I hope he recovers fully. Violence of that nature is never the answer to anything.
kiki–I don’t know Christian, but I have enjoyed many slices of his pizza. I do hope that he fully recovers and that justice is served.
1.) christian definitely hits on girls he knows are taken
2.) this probably just bit him in the ass this time around
3.) the quality of his pizza has dropped
4.) Even if 1-3 are true, violence is not justified.
completely agree.
I think the quality of his pizza is directly related to the behavior or the stock market, and although a potential resent decline in quality may be occuring, it will only be that much more delicious when the market bounces back. And there’s nothing wrong with hitting on girls that are taken at a bar. When you go into an environment where you know single people are on the prowl and drunk, you gotta be ready for it and get over it. I feel bad this dude got beat and he probably didn’t deserve it.
Let’s not get quality of pizza involved with this incident. It’s completely unrelated. If you want to talk pizza quality start a new post. Respect, people!
@11, ThatGrrl: I overheard of a random violent mugging somewhere between high and jefferson near 2NE last week.
which is very close to where
@17, Wingnut: all those folks hang out most of the day- being Lee Park territory. and yes, i think they have become more aggressive and worse off (needing ambulances, medical/police attention, passing out)…
on Christian-specific topic: i don’t have anything to say. i don’t know enough.
i felt i wanted to give the $.02 for public safety above.
Hey downtown brown, whats wrong with you?
[This comment has been edited for false speculation. –lilith]
I’m probably going to sound like the fun police, but it feels like this post was written out of concern (or something) and has gone way wrong. What if it was your personal life out there?
Yupster, with all due respect, you seem to think that speculation into someone’s personal life is inappropriate here, and in the same comment imply that “cheating” was going on, an allegation that hasn’t appeared in this thread yet? Flirting with someone who you know is or isn’t taken, or when you are or aren’t spoken for is one thing, and may or may not have happened, but you maybe crossed a little line when you inferred from comments made that people were cheating in some manner or other? No,… maybe I mis-read your comment?
How ‘blame’ is assigned in this situation should be between the 3? people involved and perhaps the legal system, and shouldn’t fall within the purview of this site. I think belmont’s attitude of sticking to the facts makes sense.
You’re right I was reading into it. Never meant to add to the problem.
Well,
I have a very reliable record of the events, and I’m not letting the first detail slip. I don’t intend in any way to come off as hostile, but I really think that Christian’s life and any impending litigation is his own very private business. By this point, I would expect that some of the cVillian readers or lurkers are fairly prominent figures around town, and any articles such as this one could be easily construed as a violation of cVillain code.
And for the record, a certain albatross has been dropped from my neck as of today. You can expect to see Donk a little bit more cVillian social. Woohoo!
I, too, have more information, and my opinions, and wouldn’t post them with a hundred foot keyboard. Its none of my business, I just find the whole episode unfortunate on many levels.
As an “out” villain who has been majorly screwed over by things I have posted here, its a simple matter of the golden rule. I’ve been on the other side and it sucks. Really big.
Now lets just concentrate on getting donk up on a table shaking his albatross free ass on fat tuesday!
@36
Thanks, sea liver, I’ve been thinking about it for a few weeks now.
IMO It is appropriate to talk/gossip about people in the public eye (public officials, celebrities, etc.) and to talk/gossip about the businesses and the business practices of the owners, but not the owners themselves. If a business owner does something good or bad to his employees, fair game. If a business owner or anyone is rumored to have done something wrong then I think we should keep it off the boards. I would remind Thor that he and the other owner/moderators are in the same “class” as the subject of this post. Would it be fair game to post about your mugging or whatever? I doubt it.
I dunno Silmo. I posted about my house being robbed. Im no celebrity or business owner, but I am out. I admit this is a bit different. Property crimes and violent crimes are two different critters, but still…
If one of the people involved wanted to give a first-hand account of what went on, and be held accountable, more or less, for the accuracy of it, then I think that would be fine, but for all of us to speculate about a situation of which we have no first-hand knowledge seems irresponsible. Just my opinion.
Hey Yo!
It’s completely different if someone wants to out themselves, more power to ‘em. But unless Thor is Christian that isn’t the case. That said what you said about property vs violent crimes makes all the senae in the world
I feel compelled to add - at this juncture - that I have an alibi.
/just sayin
Silmo, we aren’t trying to bring up gossipy stuff about individuals, this sounded like a crime, period. The facts around it make it more touchy for us. I did not realize when I posted this that there was all this personal stuff attached to it.
Just like we talked about Jayne being a victim of a crime, this was meant to be the same way.
@36 sea liver: Thanks for the info. I like knowing what the safety status is, around our fair town.
On that note, is there a way to reach the local police reports/police blotter online? I know they used to report that in the Daily Regress, but I’m an online sort o’ gal. It would be good to get this sort of info from a more official source.
http://www.charlottesville.org/Index.aspx?page=257
AWESOME! Thanks, Lurker31! Those are the daily crime stats, in Lurker’s post, for anyone who wasn’t sure.
Dang. And it has a bonus “Look who’s been arrested!” section. Wow.
ThatGrrl, the poilce no longer release that info and many indepedent media people have pushed for it. I forget the details, so maybe somebody who knows can describe the situation. City does not release the blotter, used to. County, not sure. You can read rescue squad call logs online, but they’re not informative as to outcome.
In cities where the police release block-by-block stats, it seems to help with crime reduction, by involving the community. But boosters, PR-types, who think it’s a problem when people know about a problem, don’t like it. Until they are proved wrong by the light of open knowledge blah blah. It’s a giant topic, maybe somebody’s covered it in the Hook or C-ville.
Thank goodness I am completely and utterly wrong. (Posted before seeing the other posts!)
Oh, it’s a fun read, colfer. I’m bookmarkin’ that sucker.
