Where/what is Cassis?
I am a little snotty. I think it’s this cold I have.
Cassis is an excellent restaurant across Water street from Oxo, next to Mono Loco. Great food, long bar.

If you get just one thing (to eat) there, make it the fried oysters appetizer. Superb, with a tall glass of draft Paulaner.

Sarah from Mas has retired for her growing family.
It’s more of a restaurant than a bar though. Never really known folks to hang out there, it seems as though they pretty much discourage it b/c bar is two feet away from dining tables. Plus it’s one of those places that closes after dinner service. Not exactly the place where everybody knows your name. Hopefully that will change with the arrival of sara.
That said I love the food
Word is that Cassis is redoing the bar as well.

I haven’t been to Cassis in a long time, but I remember ordering a gin and tonic with a piece of orange (instead of the usual wedge o’ lime) and was pleasantly surprised to see they used blood oranges for their bar fruit. Seriously classy.
So that’s where the slobbering stockbrokers will be? Good to know.
Oh my gawd, who told me that the new owners of Kiki’s had gotten her to work there Fridays???? Sarah I’ll follow you to the end of the world my loyalty lies not with an establishment but purely with the incredible skill and heart you have. You are my favorite bartender. I am just glad you are still tending!
Cassis late night will be a cool Kiki part 2 kinda vibe I hear. Go warm up there instead of Blue Light then come over to OXO after for dancing.

i used to live in a town that had dj/live instrument and the congos and dj = super awesome to dance to. anyone esle encounter such a concept?

I think it’s great that Cassis is making the move to a bar scene. Both Blue Light and OXO leave something to be desired, I mean 10 minutes for a drink? Really? Besides, I’m an avid fan of healthy competition (and more than 1 bathroom stall).
Fancy cocktails I like. DJ scenes I’ve never much cottoned to.
Also, I have no idea who this Sarah character is, but if she’s making decent drinks she’s ok in my book.

This town is infested with “dj scenes”. What’s next? Bustin out the CDJ’s for Christian’s late night? Fifth Street Food Lion After Dark? Applebee’s Top 40 Night? For reals, even Uncle Charlie’s is getting in on the act (Thursdays is dj dance ladies night… hawt! ahem.)
I admit I am “part of the problem”, but hey… Early March will mark two solid unbroken years at the Snatchateria. OG biznatches! Still, Even though I am feeling the dilution (hard), I still say it is good to have options. Tonight I will go everywhere that has a dj and just say hi. Maybe we can form a union.
And back on topic, I misunderstood this post and as I had set up early, I went to say hi to Sarah. She wasn’t working, but she was there anyway! Cassis looks nice, way bigger inside than it looks outside. I will have to try it out. Fried Oysters! I just hope they don’t serve me sub-par water.

Cassis with Sarah will be like Kiki without the serious flaws. Real food, a outside drinking area, more space, beer on tap, and did I mention a real kitchen with someone who knows what he is doing.
I just hope for a mellow Kiki vibe -no need for techno or dance - at least not yet
I just hope that dang ole chorizo doesn’t overspice things and ruin it.

We discussed doing a downtempo loungy non dancing type of dj thing (which I am dying to do somewhere), but it was just idle banter.
One of the nice things about the bar at Cassis is you can see the Dance of the Chefs, just a few feet away.

Sure. I have been meaning to burn a book of cd’s for some other type of gigs, more like the trippy cd’s I used to make. Thump thumping is all well and good, but variety is the spice of life.

I love Cassis… the Bouillabaisse is delicious! great people, great atmosphere, great food… and now great bar? that makes me happy.
This is excellent! They have a pretty good wine list, and some very fun after dinner drinks, which means the hubby may actually be willing to go out (assuming the scene is kept chill, a la no dance music), especially to support Sean. Long live Cassis!
