Should we kill the SWICKI?

I’m thinking yes, cause it doesn’t find anything.  Before I vent (believe me I really hate this thing), do you agree that it should be  killed?  Read more about the SWICKI.

Yes! Cast it into the Pit of Death! I have used it a few times, only to be inundated with useless links to pointless nformation that may, at best, have 3% relevance to my initial search. I’d have better results from attempting to use archaic divination techniques on my pocket lint.

I dont really understand it. What is it supposed to do?

Buzz cloud they call it. Somebody somewhere has a theory that some randomness is good for intelligence. Seems like lousy randomness to me though.

Here’s a weird one I read about recently. Say you want to teach a 7-year a random password. Due to having a an anal-fin sysadmin, the password cannot contain any words from the dictionary, and must have at least one number in it. Kids cannot remember random crap! Only adults can do that. Interesting, because kids are so good at picking up languages: actual, meaningful words.

Ok, whoever said no has to explain why!

I voted NO. The Swicki is a useless piece of shit, except to see what other people are searching for. But where on earth does it come up with such classics as: “shabby treatment housekeeper” “this is dumb” and “who?”
I vote keep it just for its effect on parlie.

No one has explained to me what it is supposed to do. I know it is some sort of searchy thing (technical term), but what are its purported advantages?

I’d like a search tool that worked. One where I could input a string of text from a comment or post and receive a hit list of cVillain posts containing that string of text. Sounds simple to me but… I ain’t seeing it here

The new search box seems better, but Googling by “site:” sometimes finds stuff it doesn’t. Put this in Google:

    Ryan Shaw site:cvillain.com

Seems somebody named “shenanigans” thinks he’s a douchebag, like ten times. Problem is, those results are keyed on the “Recent Comments” side column, so when you go to the links, it isn’t there, not even with “cached” or “repeat the search with the omitted results included.” The cached pages don’t have the supposed links either, even in the sidebar.

I know Ryan got hosed in two threads, but only one shows up in the search box above the benighted swicki, or in Google. Well, I didn’t go to pages 2 and 3. Too meta. Gotta get back to work.

What happened to the side listing of recent comments? Did you throw out the baby with the bath water?

I hate the swicki. Specifically, I hate seeing people’s names on it! Stalkage!

I’ve used it a couple of times, and had good results finding what I was looking for. I don’t exactly understand how it decides what items to enlarge, though. It seems that just refreshing my browser will completely change those things. I’ve also tried to manipulate it by entering the same search word over and over again, for hours, and it still didn’t put my search word in bold. I voted “No”, but I won’t be offended if it’s gone.

I hate the Swicki b/c I it forces me to search on my own name like a hundred times a day just to see my name appear in the “buzz cloud” And once there it only remains for like an hour. And it never appears in anything but the smallerst type. So either everyone starts taking an interest in me or you should get rid of the stupid thing

The swicki makes me feel like my parents, in the sense that it is somehow completely beyond my comprehension and involves a computer (is it a search tool? why do I never seem to be able to use it correctly?). I say remove it, for my own mental well being.

speaking of the site itself, where did the links to other blogs go? I was a fan, but maybe that’s just me…

lys - I added the links again. We are experimenting with some ad stuff on the sidebar and we had some problems with it.

Well, I attempted to foretell my future using the pocket lint method, and I see loads of laundry in my near future. When I asked the swicki about the future, it asked me “Does Rush Limbaugh have a neurological movement disorder and Oxycontin withdrawal?” Hmm..signs point to yes.
