Seems to me it’s a great music venue. The bar is set back from the stage with a lot of dancing/table space, and there’s a side wing with another bar. It has the Great Two Bathroom Problem of Charlottesville, too, joining the ranks of the very best.

They have already gotten in disagreements with local residents over sound levels of the music. Dont know if they were resolved, or how the new city wide noise ordinance will affect anything, but it was pretty hostile for while a few months back.

That’s a bummer - I had some really nice times there.

Well I don’t know what the outcome was, only that there was conflict. I think it might have been written up in the c-ville even.

Gah! Is no place sacred? Will all of cVille be transmogrified?

Belmont, I can’t help but something in the cadence and tone of #5 sounds like Snagglepuss. “Stage right, even.” http://youtube.com/watch?v=k4qFxTTi8q0

Well my teeth are pretty snaggly as a result of a swan dive face plant from a stroller when I was a tot. Five years of braces couldn’t fix it, even. I lisp and cant bite. Snagglepuss is my spirit animal.

The owners of La Taza are selling to raise money to start an exploratory fund to see if there’s a way to have Bush run for a 3rd term.

  11. 27 Feb 2008 at 10:13 ambelmont yo said:

Oooh… I was gonna touch on that, but didn’t. I kinda stopped going there when I heard the owners were fundie right wingers, but felt bad because I couldn’t confirm it, rumors being worth less than nothing and all. What was I going to do? I thought perhaps going in and putting up a fake Planned Parenthood flyer would answer my question pretty quick, but I never got around to it.

    Is it true?

One would think that the owners (who are not restaurant people by trade) would make the most money on a place with a large outdoor area going into the springtime. It’s like convertible pricing; highest in March/April lowest between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I was told once that the owners are also local builders, so perhaps they have another project or they want to simplify cash flow needs.

the owners are indeed local builders. Jeff Easter Remodeling does lots of high-end work out in the county (in all directions) and has been recognized as one of the top remodeling contractors in the country several times. they own (i believe) the whole block that La Taza is on, and possibly Belmont BBQ as well (can anyone confirm any of this?) i was under the impression that they owned both sides of that block but am probably mistaken. I used to be fairly close with JE’s #2 man, right around when they moved from Market St to their current location.

Hey Thor….there is a rumor that I might sell…right now it’s only a rumor, but if I do it’s just the upstairs kitchen. I still have a kitchen downstairs so it would be a simple menu. Not much would change. As far as using the money to fund Bush for a 3rd term…that’s really funny….and if anyone wants to put up a flyer for Planned Parenthood, or any other worthy organization…they are welcome to do so.
All these people that are so afraid of my politics should come in and meet me…I’m not afraid of new and different ideas…or opinions…..geeze…isn’t that what a coffee shop is for…a place where ideas are exchanged? Come on….show me some love….and Thor..I’ll let you know if things change.
