Daydreaming the dream day

Good morning, sunshines. If you were to have a Dream Friday…

Start wine tasting at Market Street Wineshop just a little after 5. It’s about 7 wines and a beer, usually, so in the interest of time, don’t stop to swish for tannins (but still taste the merlot you’ll never buy). Before the grad students arrive to mooch (like you!), grab that $50 ‘06 Ridge zin release and repark at Beer Run.

Wine taste again at Beer Run. Then, because it’s your dream day, ask Evan to give you a taste of all of the beers on tap, and he will do it really happily. Also because it’s your dream day, you’ll get your own bowls of bread and dip to sample over and over again. Leave your car and haul your buzzed tush down Carlton to get to Crush.

Wine taste at Crush. Miraculously, the spinach balls will not be gone by the time you arrive! Taste and zone out watching Giada De Laurentiis’ mouth on the Food Network flatscreen, then buy a case only of exclusive, limited-release vintages that Gregg and Paul are saving.

Cross the street and eat at Mas Tapas. Spend forever there. Become friends with everyone because they know that what you wrote last April was ridiculous prose, before you knew the permanence of a blog, but more importantly before you could really appreciate the art and science happening in that kitchen and the chemistry among the servers.

Take the Wahooptie home, and when you go back to Beer Run to pick up your car on Saturday, buy something at Beer Run because you were too lazy to walk with it to Crush! (If the next day still counts, Blue Mountain Brewery is involved.)

By the way, this is my Dream Friday. (–If you hadn’t picked up on that.) You could also try my Plan B Dream Friday.

It’s 5:00! Celebrate the fact that a Plan B Dream Friday is worth celebrating and drop in Gravity Lounge for a mini bottle of bubbly ($5.50!). Do not accept the glass– just do as OXO does and drop a straw in it.

Then, First Friday! Start right at 5:30 at Les Yeux du Monde for the Toy exhibit by Megan Marlatt. Be sure to compliment them on their most recent collection and find out who the artist was– you never had time to stop in going to/from the Box!

Cross up to Market and visit McGuffey. Because it is your dream day, the hors d’oeuvres will be plentiful and the wine pours generous! Stop in Bob Anderson’s studio to see the drawings. Check out photog Will Kerner, too. But mostly check to see if Russell Richards is around, so you can tell him for the n-eth time how much you love his work.

See the photographs at Enoteca while sipping a Lambrusco. Then wander down to Migration: A Gallery and say hello to Rob and Laura.

It’s about 7:30 now, and you’re starving. Since Mas is your plan A restaurant, you will have to choose between your two other favorites, OXO and Zocalo. But because it’s the peak dinner hour and you love to finish eating right as the going-scene is picking up around 11, you decide to stop in C&O for a cocktail and a small order of that perfect, salty bread. It being your dream day, you eat at both restaurants for dinner.

Late in the night, you run into that amazing guy you met at South Street you didn’t think you’d see again, and the Rock, Dwayne Johnson, (don’t judge!) bumps into you and his sheer girth inevitably knocks your drink, saving you from finishing it and being a little too tipsy to talk to the guy, and also giving you the opportunity to be showcase your low-maintenance approach to spills to the hot guy. He apologizes and invites you to a Keswick plantation house party where everyone’s playing Rock Band, but no one has played it before so you will be the best drummer there. And South Street guy? Great kisser.

So, what are you doing tonight?

My dream Friday – after my 1:30 meeting, the office suddenly loses power and I get to go home and take a nap. When I wake up, the husband has walked the dog, done the dishes, and started a fire so the room is nice and toasty. Dinner involves mashed potatoes and short ribs, and is eaten in front of the tv while we watch the 6 episodes of The Sopranos Season 6 Part 2 that we have from Netflix. In bed before 10:30, lulled to sleep by the rain.

    /I am so lame.

Not lame! I stay in a lot. I am loathe to go out when it rains, half because of the mess of fumbling with umbrellas and getting my sleeves and jean bottoms wet, half because it’s an excuse to read or watch movies with the sound of rain on my roof (which is especially pleasant where I currently live). You may get your wish with the predicted storms for today and tomorrow.

Hey Donk, don’t worry. the ticket buys the whole seat, but you’ll only need the edge.

My perfect Friday (current edition)? Bottle of Blanton’s Limited Reserve, toasty fire in the fire place, lazy dog on the rug, Le Mans (movie or race) on the flat screen.

a beautiful day working from home so i don’t have to spend 8 hours in my horrible windowless cube of an office, long walk with my dog, getting some writing done, playing some piano, long phone conversation with my mom, then going wherever the evening takes me and running into lots of friends out and about.

Do we even need a weekend preview? Thor, it’s all you, sugarbuns, if you wanna do it. The one email I got is that a villain is pouring at Veritas on Sunday. I can post for tomorrow night’s activities, but ladies and gentlemen, tonight is all yours.
