Armageddon VII: Power Out on Half the Mall Last Night

Holy snickies.. (does anyone know how to spell that).

Half the mall was completely dark last night. Everything after Blue Light to the Amphitheater was pitch black.  Did that freak anyone out or was it just me?

It was just you; many used to the dark and moonless sky for their own nefarious endeavorers

I spell it “shnikes,” but it’s a matter of personal preference. :)

Regionally: tonight, I was eating at Avalon in Richmond (verdict: go there! very good!), and the power went out. The bar crowd cheered. A couple minutes later the lights came back on, and the bar crowd cheered again. It was weird.

Tapas-ish cuisine. A step down from Mas, but I can report high marks for the brussels sprouts (I know, right?) and the short ribs. Not to mention excellent service. And I know from late nights prior: a nice spot for a drink. 2619 West Main, RVA. Hit it up.

I picked up groceries at Teeter tonight, and the students are clearly back. I saw a girl whose face looked like a cooked hot dog. Poor thing. I never had that Cancun spring break, and if all I was missing was promiscuous make-out partners, 10,000 calories of sour mix, and permanent damage to my derm, I can honestly say almost a decade later that I’m okay with that. It took this long to come to that realization, but better late than never. (If I did have it, though, I’m sure I wouldn’t regret it either.)

8: tartare was absent from the menu, but we did discuss it at dinner. We also discussed NuvaRings®*. And the internet*, ’cause we’re big dorks.

    *not menu items, sorry kids.

We had power (Satty night), but it was freaky looking outside. From inside the restaurant it was like we were either an island or a ship at sea, staring off into darkness. Out on the Mall, looked straight out of a Zombie movie. Pitch black, people moving slow. Pretty sweet. Hope somebody got pictures.

i was recently in greece, where they have 2 or 3 country-wide power outages a day. (strikes for workers’ benefits.) everyone just goes about their business, sitting there in the dark & drinking beer instead of coffee until the power comes back on.
