Restaurant Rumors: New Kiki, Private Club at Old Live Arts & Boheme

One of our birdies send in the following info about the new name for the restaurant/bar to replace Kiki:

New name of Kiki is going to be Ventana. It’s named after his bike or something.

Now for the private club… to replace 2:16?!

So I don’t know how reliable the source is for this but I have been told that someone is looking at the old Live Arts space for the purpose of turning it into a private club. Nothing has been filed with ABC as of yet but if this info is true we should see something in the next coming months start to materialize.

Boheme wants us to visit tomorrow night:

we are releasing a FREE preview of our new late night menu on Micah’s first night which I am aiming for next thursday [TODAY?]…

so ALL FOOD is FREE after 10pm till I guess till 2am (ABC SUCKS!)

our drinklist is VERY underpriced considering what goes into them.

so FREE FOOD… salty tater tots… frog legs… foie gras… cheese… bbq pizza? wtf are we doing?

whatever… very special drink prices (I am talking our drinklist like 50% off for villains only) and delicious rich I need to goto the gym tomorrow type stuff to eat… FREE.. look for the “lillith” (although retired) and the “b’ yo!” the first few “villains” that expose themsleves will have a placement as well on our drinklist… r&d is so much fun! so bring it! develop it and its yours. hooray for the social … ISM?

Ah, gotta love the birdies!

    @2 you will be missed!

    @3 Thursday night.

and everyone remember this is sort of a “soft opening” for late night if you will…
so things are still being put together etc etc… (our frog legs and foie gras wont be here YET)
free food… let us know what you like and what you don’t and what you want and stuff…

just come ready to have a good time!

I’m just gonna throw this out there… Taking a nice restaurant and adding the late night bar thing is a mistake. I wish you luck, and I’ll proabably come by the soft opening, but why can’t you just stick with what works?

  14. 19 Mar 2008 at 1:07 pmecho said:

I don’t have work Friday, so I’ll definitely check out the soft opening.

  15. 19 Mar 2008 at 1:12 pmEduardo said:

@13 I understand your concern… it is a concern of mine as well…. but a few very nice restaurants in town have a later night scene (think of OXO, C&O), we def want to keep the integrity of the restaurant by all means… but would like to sell a little more booze as well… This helps balance off the cost of putting out great food. (if you must know the truth) … I am also hoping that it will take away some of the “stuffy” vibe away from us that keeps alot of you from coming in. I do hope to see you tomorrow night!

216 is already a private club. 501(c)(3) I believe. That’s how we can drink until 5am!

  17. 19 Mar 2008 at 1:31 pmecho said:

I’m no lawyer, but I thought 501(c)(3) was the portion of the tax code that explains non-profit charitable organizations.

  18. 19 Mar 2008 at 1:32 pmEduardo said:

you must be a non-profit charitable organization to obtain a liscense that allows you to serve all hours like 216 does. 216 is a nonprofit believe it or not.

  19. 19 Mar 2008 at 1:34 pmecho said:

That would explain i then. I always wondered which loop hole they had found.

Has anybody checked out Aroma’s Cafe in Barrack’s yet? It’s in that narrow alley across from 5 guys. Menu looks prooty good, but I’ve yet to hear a review.

  22. 19 Mar 2008 at 2:18 pmThatGrrl said:

@21 Wandered into Aroma’s midafternoon on Saturday. Food was amazingly good. I had the schwarma (basically a chicken gyro with veggies and a nice, spicy tahini sauce). ThatBoy had something called The Mediterranean, if memory serves (marinated chicken on cibatta, I believe). Both were fan-freakin-tastic and served with a cous cous/lentil mix topped with a couple of dollops of what would appear to have been sriracha sauce (very spicy red chili sauce). The dollops allowed you to use your best judgment as to whether to spice it up a little, a little more or not at all. Total bill with one bottled soda and a reasonable tip: about $19. Sandwiches run around $7. We were more than filled for hours to come. ThatBoy had to help finish mine. Excellent choice for a filling lunch!

Aroma’s is awesome! I’m glad someone brought it up. I went for the first time about a week and a half ago and I’ve gone back at least 3 times. The owner is extremely friendly and really charismatic. The food is vey reasonably priced and really good. I’ve had the chicken shawarma and the falafel sandwich… The falafel is awesome (I like it much better than Zandi’s) and the baklava is the best baklava I’ve had in my life (no kidding).
Altogether a great spot for a quick lunch, I also hear they have more of a sit down atmosphere during dinner time -although Barracks doesn’t exactly come to mind when I want to have a sit down dinner

I what like to heap worthy praise on Aroma’s- the owner is quite a nice guy and should do very well. The food is tasty and fresh. It’s a nice balance to 5 guys and much better than the pizza place across the way.

For a long time, Hassan, the owner and culinary high priest at Aromas (no apostrophe, he-he) Café, has talked about publishing an Aromas cookbook.

But, I think he can’t bear to give away his secrets, like the recipes for the grilled eggplant (with pomegranate among the ingredients?), the shawarma and “Casablanca” sandwich seasonings, and the Habiba sauce.

I think the Thai to be place is Tara Thai. I ate there a few times when I used to live in DC. Pretty good Thai food, not that we need another pretty good Thai place. Oh well. While I’m here, I recommend Limeleaf if you haven’t tried it yet. Up 29N at Rio Hill.

Club 216 is not being replaced! The club is not closing down and is probably one of the most financiallly successful operations in the city. The club is a 501 (c) (7) non-profit, private club. It operates as a dance club, but could operate in any way it sees fit. It is goverened by a 7 member board of directors. It also doesn’t loophole anything. It operates correctly based on the license it received from ABC. It could stay open 24 hours, 7 days a week if it wanted to. The club follows the law based on its license and what it is allowed to do being a private club. It’s also one the best and least expensive places to party. Anyone can join…there is just a waiting period, but it only costs $30 for 1-year and $5 each time you enter after that, unlimited. Members are also allowed to keep their own bottles of liquor behind the bar…which means your bar tab ends up being $10 - $20, instead of $60 - $100, because you’re only paying for mixers ($1 - $2 a pop). They sell beer, wine, and champagne.

    Fun as hell!!
