on the bla note though…. I spoke with Special Agent Kevin Davis today and bottle service is a no go… too risky and too much legal loop hole hoopla for it to benefit us unfortunately… would be worth it for busy places like OXO and X…. I wish someone would pioneer this concept in the Ville! Thank you to the kids that came out for Hump Day Bump at the Cafe tonight… mellow but cool crowd. Hope to see you all tomorrow at Boheme. XO

Now I know some of you get confused about genres of electronic music, I know I do. This breaks it down so well it makes me want to weep.

Why not have a one time thing at some applebee’s or country kitchen buffet or some such. If we could get 20-30 villains out (maybe in some sort of subtle costume, like a color theme, or a decade theme or something - and then flat out deny that it was planned) it would be a night out AND guerilla theater. Seriously, we need to start putting this lovely alcoholic community of irreverence to work subverting the dominant paradigm of this staid burg. With our great power comes great responsibility… namely to confuse the general populace.

I mean what would they think if 20-30 separate folks came into the bar at Applebee’s some random tuesday night dressed like 70’s porn stars, all speaking with a fake speech impediment of their choice, and all claiming to be in town for the “big pet grooming conference at JPJA” and then proceeded to get drunk and silly. Or anything! The sky is the limit.

As much as I like tots, this to me blows doors on chillin at the same old joint we will undoubtedly be at later that weekend, talking about our stupid jobs and whatever.

Watch your back Improv Everywhere. We’re drunker, we’re weirder and we’re coming for you.

@116 That sounds excellent! Fits in perfectly with what B’Yo is proposing. Basically, pick a boring, bland place catering to boring, bland middle America and go wacky. It’s cheap. It’s easy. The fun all but writes itself.

    A) It needs to be downtown. Applebee’s is up 29 and I try to limit my drunk driving to no more than 2 miles.
    B) Places like Old Country Buffet don’t have alcohol
Dives are fine, but they gotta have a patio.

@121 pantops applebees is about 2 miles from downtown. it is a nice leisurely drunk drive, at least in the opposite direction.

lazy parrot has a patio. with a dj who hollers “group drink!” & everyone drinks. & nightly bucket specials. but it closes at midnight on weekdays i think.

@104. Tubing & camping. I know a little about that but the fun factor is tremendous. Let’s give it a try, and I guarantee a great time. Camping is excellent, the only problem is that trains come through all night. Otherwise, this is the best thing over the summer.

  126. 24 Apr 2008 at 11:15 pmparlie said:

i still do not understand why there always have to be trains in my campsites, you guys.

@126 Seriously! What is UP with that? Last summer I ended up camping in Canada. Even up there, trains in the campsite. Apparently it’s a problem of international significance.

If you do see a train while camping, don’t do this.

I heard Ventana is giving away a couple of Feist tickets tonight. Is free indie rock cooler than free tater tots - hard to say, but I bet the concert lasts longer.

@136- Ventana not nice?? Maybe the rumor about Mike is true, that he was the reason Mas quit doing brunch.

@138: WHAT?! I miss Mas brunch. I hope that’s not true.

  140. 25 Apr 2008 at 4:35 pmJay laTete said:

@136 & 8 - I heard that rumour, too. Some axle-rod pitched a fit @ brunch and Mas said “Fork that Crap!” and put the kee-bosh on brunch. Is it true?

  141. 25 Apr 2008 at 4:39 pmshenanigans said:

Why would Mike pitch a fit? He’s a cool guy.

I went there to Ventana and it was not a grand experience, the food and beverages were way over priced and the owner stood around glaring at people all night.

    Kiki’s was way better

  146. 25 Apr 2008 at 5:06 pmJay laTete said:

Was it Mike? I didn’t hear THAT part. Just that some dude didn’t like the Bloody Marys or whatever and made a scene at brunch. Said he was a connoisseur of Bloody Marys and Mas’ were no good. Then he like walked, or they threw him out or something… and decided it wasn’t worth doing brunch anymore. That’s what I heard (admittedly from a bunch of drunks at some local dive last night) but that doesn’t sound like Mike, does it? I don’t know who it was.

  147. 25 Apr 2008 at 5:12 pmLys said:

All I know is he’s only ever been completely gracious to me and my friends, so while I know nothing about any Mas incident, it seems out of character.

  148. 25 Apr 2008 at 5:24 pmJay laTete said:

Yeah, Mike’s always been nice to us, too… but I miss Kiki’s. When it was Kiki they had surf flicks. And a cute blonde bartender. Mike’s cool, and I can’t imagine he would make a scene… but he’s no substitute for the cute blonde.
