New Favorite Website: BeaverLikeMammals.com

Beaver Like Mammals

Ok, why is this my new favorite website? Because I got this email from “Some Cows”

i have an awesome mostly local website. it has to do with beavers. real beavers, not anything nasty. i started it last year and it was relatively successful and this year i would love to figure out a way to get more visitors/participation

Oh really. And the website admin directs me to Beaverlikemammals.com which I immediately fall in love. What could be more meaningless/amazing than talking about BLMs (Beaver Like Mammals) on a local level?

BLM has pulled out the trump card on cVillain. So I emailed “Some Cows” again and got this response:

info about the idea behind the site and how to submit are all on there. i just want people to be aware of it and to keep it in the back of their minds as they are walking/driving around town and possibly seeing beaver-like mammals. do you think it would be good to wait a week or two, until it gets warmer and the beaver-like mammals are out and about? im not sure when they come out of hibernation but it must be soon. anyhow use your judgement and do whatever fits in with your schedule. thanks again!

To which I responded, thinking this was some porn thing:

So how long until this site turns into hot ladies?

The response:

definitely not going to happen. i mean, that’s not my interest. is that a good thing or a bad thing, from your point of view?

So does this site rock or what? Does the lack of porn in an obviously punny situation a good or bad thing?  I’ll be chasing some BLMs.

IIRC, somecows originally wanted this site to be called ispybeaver.com, but some enterprising domain squatter picked it up before they had a chance to.

I have a BLM living in my basement (Little Edgar) and he’s destroying the insulation. They also have a colony under my enormous cherry tree. I got a humane trap and some tips on their favorite food (parsely!), but I wouldn’t know what to do with one once it was in the cage.

I also have RLM’s (Raccoon Like Mammals) living in an unused chimney on the roof. I have the same dilemma with them.

If you go into the IX building and walk to the back of that condemned part and look down, there is a little colony of the biggest BLMs you’ve ever seen. I can’t wait until Al Dente goes into that space across from there so we can sit on the patio and watch BLM TV. It’ll be all Meerkat Manor and shit.

After he devoured all my echinacea last summer, we caught our BLM with a humane trap and ended up letting him out at the base of the foot trail going to Monticello because we simply didn’t feel like driving any further.

He shit all over the car.

Still love the website, though. I appreciate their dedication!

while completely benign, the BLM posting “My Aunt Has Beavers in Her Yard” has that dirty…I don’t know what.

so… how does the current ranking of #1 city for beaver like mammals affect the housing market around here?

/wonders who does the rating, BLMs or humans. and who is translating?

From my experience with the Wildlife center and Animal control, I learned it is illegal to transport BLMs off your property. I’m telling on you, Lys!

B-yo, my wife’s grandmother used to trap squirrels in a humane trap. She would then dunk the trap in a barrel full of water. You should try that.

I hate all BLM’s. They are destroying my back yard. I’ve tried filling thier holes with dog shit. It got rid of them, I thought, till I realized they were just hibernating.

I’m going to pay my friend to sit on my back porch and shoot them with his .22 rifle. Neighbor’s cat be warned.

9: I got rid of a BLM by surrounding my garden with a combination of dried animal blood (no really! you can buy it at a nursery) and human hair trimmings.

I once spoke with a County Animal Control Officer about a BLM problem at my house. He told me that it was illegal to trap and relocate (disease issues), as well as to shoot with rifle (inadvertently killing neighbor issues). I then asked what I should do. He advised me to either trap it or shoot it.
However, if you take the humane approach, it is best to relocate the BLM in a field with a hedge row, not in a woodsy area, as they won’t survive in a forest. When trapped, the BLM is so frightened that it will make a poo poo mess in the trap and, if you don’t take precautions, in your car. See @5.

belmont yo, pm4shenanigans, lys, and others - dont forget, your comments would all make great submissions over at the website in question, beaverlikemammals.com. everyone, keep your eyes open for BLMs this spring and head on over! all postings that dont involve shooting BLMs are welcome.

thank you for your attention to this matter.

Go to Tractor Supply, they sell pest repellent in 1 gallon jugs for about $10 good for mice, rats, snakes, and BLM’s. sprinkle some of that shit around and lettem relocate themselves

Ooh, yes. That stuff works, too. One of the main ingredients seems to be black pepper. I wonder if just throwing a metric shit ton of black pepper around your yard would work. Gobbler: in the name of science, you must do this.

  19. 28 Mar 2008 at 2:12 pmSmiley said:

I think it’s actually red pepper. And if you use too much, it will kill vegetation.

Actually, my neighbors told me that they used to eat BLMs when they were growing up around here. I think that BLM’s would taste good with some black pepper. Thanks for the sug, Stanley. I will try and report back.

@2 Raccoons are no joke, if they’re living in your chimney (even if it’s unused) you need to get them out. Not only are they rabies reservoirs, but they carry numerous parasitic diseases that are transmissible to humans and pets such as leptospirosis ( transmitted to human and pets, can be fatal for both) and baylis ascaris, a type of roundworm (can be fatal for humans and pets). A public service announcement.
