Once again, drinking for a good cause…

All Night LongAhhh, prom season. Just the word probably causes all of us to simultaneously sigh or shudder, or if you a had prom night like mine, think of siphoning gas into the world’s most charmingly junked out Jeep Grand Wagoneer and wishing that you had opted against pantyhose. We swayed to embarrassing rituals, a certain sense of an oppressive right of passage, and the bittersweet pictures posed in front of a charred fireplace while looking very much like a caricature of the adults we hoped to become, all in the vain hope of the true reason for the night: after-prom. While prom might bring flowers and rentals of all kinds to my mind, after-prom conjure up Tori Spelling getting drunk in a red hoop skirt dress on prom night in Beverly Hills, every single after-school special on sex ed, and my friend M who said that she and her friends had something of a de-flowering party in a hotel resplendent with a heart-shaped tub and silky sheets. For Charlottesville schools, the kids have a much better, and might I say, classier option, and we have a chance to do some of-age boozing to support it.

This year, All Night Long (that’s your cue, Lionel) will be held at U Hall on April 26 after Prom, and is free to all students with a stamp from their prom. This happens to be the night of Foxfield,  and the opening show at the Pavilion, so while we might be out setting a less than savory example for the youth of this town, they will be in U Hall winning (pretty rad) prizes, dancing to DJs, playing arcade and floor games, and generally participating in good old fashioned clean fun. If you would like to volunteer for this event, feel free to contact All Night Long at AllNightLongParty@gmail.com OR, feel free to go to Felini’s, XLounge or the Brick Oven and donate a couple of calories and a percentage of your tab towards funding this event. The flyer has all of the info, and you’ve got all the power, so use it wisely.

See, shen, if we drink all the booze, there will be none left for the wee ones.

    I drink for the children.

it’s kind of like we’re having their rite of passage party for them, as they trudge through the invisible gate oblivious to the horrors to come.

    “join us… join us…”

    it’s creepy.

    see you guys there!

We had a planned after prom party for us. It was terrible. Yes, there were games and prizes, but it wasn’t at all what we had imagined our prom night would be like. Eventually, we all ended up at the beer party and deflowered each other. That was way more fun.

I hope this aternative to post prom beer party is a success.

our after-prom was ice skating. no drinking, no deflowering. we all left that for college orientation.

How many kids do they think will show up for this? Our after prom party was alcohol, drugs and sex at the home of one of the owners of the Carolina Panthers. Possibly the sweetest party I went to in high school. There’s no way I would have foregone that for DJs and arcade games.

@10: in the past they’ve done it at AHS and had about 1,000 kids turn out. With the move to neutral U Hall and the upping of the prizes (tvs, iPods etc) they’re expecting even more. We’ll see how it turns out…

I’ll never forget my roommate in colleges Prom story. He and one of his buddies apparently ate a bunch of LSD before going to pick up their dates and he said that as he walked into the dance all he could do was laugh, and for the first few minutes he just laughed hysterically at everything. Apparently his date didn’t think that was too cool, (OR she could see that his eyeballs were enormous) and she ditched him. He then remembers trying to dance with someone and then laughing uncontrollably at them and running out of there.

I can’t think of anything more horrible than going to a high school prom on acid. If any of these kids get busted for drinking on prom night they can just relay this story to their parents so that they feel better about a little booze.

I only went to one prom. Not my own. And the guy only asked me because his girlfriend had asked someone else to her prom. Revenge dating: it’s what’s for dinner.

The irony in this whole drinking to benefit for kids not to drink on prom night? I just had to say it….
