Freeze Warning Tonight

This warning blew me away:

FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM TO 8 AM EDT WEDNESDAY…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STERLING VIRGINIA HAS ISSUED A
FREEZE WARNING…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM TO 8 AM EDT
WEDNESDAY.

OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES WILL DROP BELOW FREEZING IN MANY LOCATIONS
BETWEEN I-81 AND I-95.

A FREEZE WARNING MEANS SUB-FREEZING TEMPERATURES ARE IMMINENT OR
HIGHLY LIKELY. THESE CONDITIONS WILL KILL CROPS AND OTHER
SENSITIVE VEGETATION. THEY WILL ALSO MAKE IT FREAKING COLD TO GET TO SOUTH STREET TONIGHT.

Isn’t it way late for a freeze?

    Nope. Last year we had frost on May 29, although that was very rare. Normally by the end of April you don’t have to worry about freezing temps.

    I’ve always heard that rule of thumb is May 10 for last freeze in our zone.
    Sux for all those poor souls who bought tomato plants at Southern States over the weekend!
