Observations of Spring Fever

Wow, what a night.  I hadn’t seen this many people on the mall in forever.  Everyone came out of hibernation yesterday.  The tough part was finding a nice place to be outside with the sea of people that came downtown.

Ventana (new place in place of Kiki) was full of Law and Darden students wearing sun dresses.  I didn’t go in, but it looks like it was pretty exciting.   While we have ripped on Splendora’s in the past (see The Great Cookie Roundup, one of my favorite articles, or Inside Scoop in Gelato), I did have the pleasure to try the gelato again.  Spendora’s has gotten way better and I will write a new review.

Ten, as usual, was full of hot Dardenites and L1s, 2s, and 3s.   Yummy.  I also had the pleasure of walking by OXO which looked semi-bondage to me.  I think OXO kicked ass on the interest level; everyone I talked to was aware of the party and their curiosity was there.  But, the problem was no one wanted to go; perhaps it was the $15 cover, or the fear of leather. I don’t know. Did you go?  We should have some pictures coming soon.

Semi-bondage… I saw a few people that had that look down to an art. Seriously, these were not outfits bought just for last night.

I had a ridiculously good time at OXO, I definitely didn’t have an especially ‘bondage’ outfit on but I loved the range of people…and the drinks were delicious, had fun chatting with a few villains too. I agree about the interest level, I knew of several people who seemed interested in going but didn’t just man up and head out to the fun…or they said they didn’t know what to wear etc…

I didn’t go because of the $$ factor, mostly. I had some friends in Austin that would put on 2-part fetish shows at the Atomic Cafe’ every Tuesday. One part was whipping people, including curious frat boys, who didn’t realize that the whippings would actually hurt.(funny!) During the 2nd part, my chums would pierce themselves in all sorts of ways, and perform ritual suspensions. Real live meat puppets, as it were. T’was a tad macabre at first, but I got used to it. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing.

OXO was lots of fun and it seemed like people were really into it; if it didn’t seem crowded from outside it is because people were going out of control on the dancing pole!

I tried to go to Ventana on Friday and I must say that I was pretty aggravated when we were greeted outside by the owner’s wife saying that they had a private party going on (I believe for one of their friends) and that we should come back after 10. I’m sorry, that’s a pretty dumb business move: to close your restaurant up and reject all those people on your second weekend open/first Friday after Five. I think that a restaurant should establish itself and cater to the greater community before doing that kind of thing. It just comes across as exclusive and elitist…

The patio at Zocalo is awesome, and those fried balls of cheesy glory are one of my favorite things to eat in this town!

ZOMG, Friday was fun. I walked in, saw the stripper pole in the back and naked barbie sculptures and it was on. I was petrified and ran across the street to Cassis for some liquid fortification. A couple of drinks later, and it was the coolest party. All the girls looked really hot. Yes, it was bondage lite, we had the theme as a suggestion for people who wanted to tak it to that level; you didn’t have to be in head-to-toe leather to get in. The people that didn’t come, you missed out. To the cVillains that did, your presence was appreciated. And I think we should have the stripper pole permanently installed in that back dining room.

If the decision to install the pole is taken, you may want to tell John to include a fish course every evening… just a suggestion.

@5 the party at Ventana was fun… whats wrong with being exclusive? it was the perfect pregame for OXO… which was RIDICULOUSLY FUN!!! I can just picture Alice making all of those barbie dolls in bondage gear… that had to have taken some time. VERY nicely done.

@7: Halibut is already OXO’s signature dish!
@5: They do have a shitload of tequilas though, so don’t write them off just yet!
@8: I think Doof did all the barbies.

I implore you to rework this phrase this so I can once again sleep at night.

I, too, attempted to Ventana on Friday but I can’t hate on them for having a private event - rent is rent and it’s gotta get paid somehow (and after eyeing the snacks they had out, I will certainly be back to give it an official try) (by the way, major points for having beautiful flowers on all the tables - the place looked great).

We then ended up at Blue Light for dinner and my husband pointed out that my Thai Shrimp Taco app tasted like it had been basted in McDonald’s BBQ sauce. Oh well - at least my virgin (is that ironic to say when you’re knocked up?) pinapple daquiri at Casis and my guava concoction at Oxo hit the spot. Bartenders are the new chefs, what can I say?
