The injury rate is high and if you've never read/seen how prize horses are bred it's pretty fucking barbaric. Not all horses are Barbaro, a lot are "food" and are shipped as "cargo" with no food or water and are exposed to extremes of temperature on the days long journey to the slaughterhouse where their throats are cut or their heads are cracked with a hammer. Dogs that don't race well are still killed, often in ways exactly the same or just as brutal as the Vick dogs were disposed of. Drowned, shot, beaten. They can't jump or climb stairs after being adopted, if they get adopted. So the two "sports" are really brutal and end the lives of many animals early and in painful ways.
