I wanted to make sure everyone saw cvilleMUSE’s coverage of the Satellite Ballroom closing.
It’s worth the read and very much a stellar article. Shaun, the author, concludes:
I am certain that there are a number of people working very hard behind-the-scenes to find an answer to Charlottesville’s current lack of a medium-sized concert hall. Until that solution presents itself, what we can do as music fans in Charlottesville is get out there and support our local musicians and our existing music venues. Their continued success is now more vital to our music scene than ever before.
Now, go check it out!

Thanks Thor. I know I don’t get over here often, but just wanted you to know I’m around.
I lub the Muse. I wish more Villains would go over and post.
There is a fairly obvious location that is relatively near the Corner, is in need of a new tenant, and has a reasonable amount of space, with some parking to boot. I predict it will become temporary Satellite until the Jefferson opens.
Thor - good job on the cross linking.
@3: Starr Hill?
How about Under the Roof’s old space?
The old Napa building on Preston would probably work too…but not as close to grounds
#6 has what I had in mind. But don’t jinx it, I could totally see it working (for the time being).
Under the Roof could work, if they don’t end up tearing it down first…

Whatever solution they come up with, I hope they find one soon. The Charlottesville music scene will have a big gaping hole in it come June 1.
I could see Starr Hill re-opening as a club of some sort, and have even heard that will happen. What’s sad is I think the old Peyton Pontiac building could have had a second life as a club, but instead it’s an empty gravel lot. At this point, I’m pretty resigned to going to Richmond or farther to see mid-level bands for the time being.
I wouldn’t bet on the Under the Roof space. It would take a lot to make it into a club, and while it could make a great one, UVA’s teeth are already too deep into it.
If someone were to take a space like #6 & put the money into it to make a “club” they better know what they’re doing. As far as getting people in Cville to go out & see shows of any genre consistently is practically impossible. Starr Hill sucked & Satellite was not much better (sound/atmosphere) wise. You have to have at least one.
o make a “club” they better know what they’re doing
well, i suppose they would if they wanted to succeed. then again, if they just had a bunch of money and wanted to play at being a club owner, it wouldn’t much matter.
CVS should be boycotted. It’s such a sterile, nasty, soulless place.
It doesn’t fit at all on the corner. Shop at local pharmacies!
