Things You Need to Know

Look, you need to know these things, so… read on…

On Thursday, you can attend an all day Government Services Fair on the downtown mall. While you won’t get to ride the Ferris Wheel, you can oodle at a bunch of local government agencies, goggle at various police and fire department vehicles (hopefully they bring the armored personnel carrier), watch the SWAT team kick ass and heckle some live debaters. If you are heading West Bound on I-64, you need to expect some traffic delays. VDOT is shutting down one of the lanes near milepost 108, just past Crozet. [VDOT]

Want to know what you are buying, where it came from and how to get locally made products? Check out Locallectual.com, which despite being a little confusing to navigate, gives shoppers the ability to track the social and environmental impact of their purchases. You get to participate in the discussion too. So head on over there and support local and ecologically friendly stuff. I’m sure the two local founders, Karen and Jessica would love to hear thoughts from you.

Order from Horder is shutting down. One of our keen birdies wanted to let everyone know that Order from Horder is having a 20 to 50% off sale. Now, the weird thing is that Order from Horder still has its website up… maybe they are doing internet only sales. Anyone know?

Are you sure it’s Lord Hardwicke’s and not Ludwig’s that’s closing? Ludwig’s closed last week and Lord Hardwicke’s just opened (or is just about to open) a second location out in Greene.

Order form Horder folks tired of the tough downtown business climate and ready to retire. No takers for the business so they sold their client list to Miller Office supply, which I suspect will have a mirror site to the Order from Horders.

It’s already open. For those of you who enjoyed having your martini’s made old-school by Tom the bartender at the Downtown Grille, Tom’s now relocated to the Greene County Lord Hardwicke’s.
