1.8 Magnitude Earthquake Gently Rumbles Northern Virginia

Northern Virginia Earthquake

It appears that a minor earth quake has rumbled the northern most part of Virginia at 1:30PM, today. It struck 2 miles west of Annandale, VA.

While, we probably didn’t feel it in Charlottesville, the US Geological Survey reports that it was a magnitude of 1.8 on the Richter Scale. So far, we haven’t heard of any damage. Did you or anyone else you know feel it? Wikipedia says you can’t feel it, but I think they are lying.

I’m responsible for lightning and thunder, but I am in NO WAY RESPONSIBLE for tornadoes, cyclones, earthquakes, fissures or anything else related to other gods.

Whoopty do. Where I am from earthquakes will kill you. Try a 6.4 on for size :P (Insert dirty size jokes here).

I love earthquakes. If they don’t kill you, they are amazing good fun. Rolled a five point something on the tenth floor of a ten story building with a four foot horizontal sway. It was like a carnival ride.

Weird. I felt something much later in the day under my feet. At the time I imagined it was a major quake in California that we were feeling here. Maybe my mind wasn’t playing tricks on me.

I work just a couple of miles from the “epicenter” (seems like an overdramatic word for this scenario), and I actually heard the quake but didn’t feel anything. I made a crack about it sounding like an earthquake though….who knew I was actually right?

I’m glad you put that “@13″ or they wouldn’t have been sure whom you were talking to.
