Bizou! Bless you.

I noticed that there wasn’t a review on this. You don’t have to post this, cause I know my restaurant reviews suck, plus I can’t spell restaurant [fixed by editor].

My office went there the other day, and they kindly put together three tables to suit our 10 person party. The other option was to sit outside, but it was about to rain, and the man at the door made a good point, “if eet start to rain, and no table inside, you stay outside.” They set up the tables quickly and had us seated.

The menu is short, but varied. I’ve had a few things now. The meatloaf is awesome. The pork tostada looked great, but the report was that it wasn’t totally filling. I know the fried chicken is also a good choice. Everything is presented very colorfully, and yummily. This particular time I order the special, catfish tacos. They were great. I added some Sriracha sauce, cause I like things hot. I got it on my pants. I do that.

This is one of those places that forgot to or intentionally didn’t redecorate at the end of the 80’s. or maybe the 70’s. But I like the retro feel to it. The booths, however, are a little uncomfortable. The service is excellent and very cute. I like how they work together and that no one server has one table. The lunch prices are a little higher than other places ($8-12) but the food is totally worth it, in my opinion.

How about some other reviews of this place?

I lub Bizou- it is a definitive cville joint. I go there so much for lunch that I rarely think about it for dinner. That is only because I like to spread my food dollars around. Their good and cute service is always a winner in my book. Is the food worth the money- you bet!

Bizou rocks - the blue cheese salad (with a blueberry vinaigrette) and the wild game pate (when they have it) are a regular meal of mine. The calamari (in a honey-soy sauce, I think) are also incredible.

Doesn’t hurt that they have a hawwwt bartender on Saturday nights….

i luh bizou too, I had the crabcakes there the other day, small but decent for lunch. We had room for dessert. The menu doesn’t change much but it’s consistent. Do the same people who own bang still own bizou?

oh, they also recently started serving brunch - had the brioche french toast (with creme, bacon and pineapple - don’t add the syrup, it was better without it). Yummy.

In general, places with shorter menus > places with longer menus. (Though there are exceptions, e.g., http://www.bernssteakhouse.com/Portals/2/Documents/BSH%20Menu.pdf .)

    Gobbler likes the hot cock!

Seriously though, several of my carnivorous friends passionately swear by their meatloaf.

Bizou is great. Simple meal, reasonable price, good service, good wine. Always a solid choice.

Can’t say my service has always been the best (I did wait 10 minutes once when I asked for a check) but I won’t hold it against them. As long as they make meatloaf I’ll eat there.

@5 up until recently they shared a website, but then the website expired or something & i don’t think they renewed it.

i liked bizou the time that i went for dinner. the steak was really good, even though it was overcooked, & came with this huge mountain of onions, & some fries. loved the chocolatey dessert thing. we sat outside, which was nice. i’ll have to try it for lunch sometime.

I’m sure it’s good as I’ve heard all kinds of good things about it, there’s just nothing I like to eat there.

I lub those Mexican waiters @ Bizou. They are the shiznit. They called me “Pinche Flaca” when I worked there. That means something good right?

    @8. Thanks for that.

Seems funny to me, that everyone loves this place so much, yet its never been reviewed. I’d like to see more reviews of the C’ville staple restraunts. (Yes, that is how it is spelled.)

Can anyone comment on the price range of the dinner menu?

Also, is it open for late night drinks? What’s the beer selection like?

@ 14 Well I was going to go with “Gobblers hot cock exploded on his pants”, because I am twelve, but I am trying to mellow out.

    That sauce *is* good though…

the meatloaf is definitely worth the quirkiness of Bizou’s service and decor. i’ve also heard good things about the wild game pate, so i’ll have to try that as well.

@14: If I remember correctly, entrees cost between $15-$25, but most were under $20. I had the short rib special when I was there. Delicious.

P.S. nobody’s reviewed Bizou because it’s mediocre. And il fait partie des meubles as the Frogs say.

Bizou has served me raw chicken and meatloaf with a bottle cap baked inside. I don’t eat there anymore.

Bizou is serviceable fare. I certainly don’t mind eating there now and again.
Better than Escafe/South Street, not as good as Hamiltons/Cassis. The fried chicken dishes are reliably good. The salads can be a little sloppy.
Relatively inexpensive compared to similarly tiered places.

bizou is one of my favorite restaurants in c-ville. the shrimp & grits are to die for. their sauces are unique, the smashed potatoes are tasty and i’m always pleased with their seafood dishes. the food is classy and down home all at once. and it’s fun to talk about the film posters on the walls.

@19 Hey butt head, do you travel from thread to thread just being a dick? You just slander a place and move on? I disagree with those who don’t like Bizou but they have their reason and that’s cool. Someone might read you post and think it’s true.
    Not cool.

i’ve never been for lunch, but have had a couple good dinners. the entrees aren’t real big (it is fairly unusual for me to finish everything on my plate, and i have there each time– also says something about the food), but i’d say they are reasonably priced, and as someone who loves tasting, they’re the right size to get at least an appetizer or dessert, if not both.

Bizou’s brunch rocks!! Four of us went two weeks ago and the kitchen was kickin it. The waffle is a must. We actually shared it like an appetizer. I must say, I never thought I’d eat meatloaf with poached eggs, but once I did, I’m hooked. I’ll be there next Sunday.

Bizou is my favorite spot. The food is always delicious, the atmosphere is both fun and cozy, the service is fantastic, and they have the hottest chef/owner in town…. yeah, you ladies know who i’m talkin about.

Went there for dinner not too long ago. WAY over priced and not all that great for what I payed for it. I’ve eaten lunch there before and had some fried chicken that was awesome. But hey, I’ve also eaten at some fried chicken shacks that cost $3 and enjoyed it just the same. What atmosphere do you speak of? I haven’t noticed one other than a ridiculously small kitchen.
My wife loves the meat loaf. But she also love my loaf as well. That sounds gross, but also fun.
Bizou = I won’t ever pay to eat there again.
