Weekend Preview Graduation Weekend

spring charlottesville activities

You can always check out cvilleMUSE for your arts and music recommendations, but without further ado, I present to you things which will make your weekend better than swell. I actually really like looking around for exciting things to do, because there is cool and unique stuff every weekend. As always, let us know what we’ve forgotten.

All the stuff is after the break!

.

I Wanna Take You to a Gay Bar

A gay dance club will be taking over R2 on Friday night. Should be fun to see what happens to the regular crowd! Doors open at 10PM and if goes as described should be a “Fun, positive and well attended event.” No word on gay Abraham Lincolns, but you can read about Blowoff right on our site! Let us know if you are going.

Can We Please Be Extreme?

XtremeFest 2008

Waynesboro is hosting the “XtremeFest” which celebrates extreme outdoor sports. They will have a BMX show, let you climb walls, kayak and win oodles of prize. It’s a great excuse to get out of town and hide from the mess of UVA graduation.

Then, let’s be bookworms!

The Green Valley Bookfair is currently having their spring opening and they will be open this week and next. You can get a ton of discounted books and, again, leave Charlottesville on Saturday or Sunday.

Or, we can go to the park.

Shenandoah National Park has invited all of us to “Save the Meadow,” meaning that we can get free park passes by listening to presentations on invasive species.

Let’s not forget to get our drink on!

Front Royal is having a wine festival all day on Saturday. If that’s too far of a drive, head South and go to the Blue Mountain Brewery!

Oh, and finally, BUY YOUR TICKETS FOR THE SPACE PARTY NEXT WEEKEND and run far, far away from UVA.

Be aware this kite festival is in Fluvanna, which is exclusively inhabited by rednecks so the kites will be comprised of either black trash bags or Food Lion plastic bags tied across twigs and held by a length of bailing twine. It’s a visual feast.
    /Chad… don’t hate me.

Here’’s to hoping git er done goes the way of wassup! Rednecks? Isn’t there going to be some long-winded defense of that segment of society? Crickets, crickets. Hypocrisy anyone.

And as to the UVA grads, congrats and we love you because you keep my property values up and I enjoy the sense of entitlement 9 months out of the year, but please leave. I love this town in the summer.

Dude, in case you didn’t know, Lake Monticello is in Fluvanna County and there are millions of Yankees that inhabit that joint… Ex cops from Staten Island, retired ticket takers from Jets games. That’s who will be there, not rednecks but people from up North! Wish one of them would move here and open an Italian restaurant worth a shit!

I organize the event and it was just great this year (as it has been the previous 3).

MC – Luckily the weather was flawless. I’m a big Ben Franklin fan so we don’t fly in lightening. :) I like to keep it rain or shine because a forecast of rain usually means some wind so the little secret is to hope for a forecast of rain and then hope it doesn’t. :)

As to the make up of the folks flying… I haven’t seen any confederate flag kites flying there yet but maybe all the yankees from Lake Monticello made their owners to nervous to come out and fly, but they would have been welcome anyway (like everyone).

Hope you’ll all come join us next year! It’s really a nice day.
