Charlottesville Cricket Club: The Real Deal

I know what you are thinking… What the hell is Cricket? I’ve included this instructional video for you to learn how to play the game.

Ok, that was not real, but I hope you laughed. Did you realize that Charlottesville actually has a cricket league? They have named themselves the “Charlottesville Cricket League” or CVCC for short. The website explains:

CVCC is comprised of more than 30 players of various ethnicities and backgrounds. The team practices every Wednesday and some Sundays at Darden Towe Memorial Park. We welcome and include enthusiastic local residents in our weekend practice games. Since the formation of the team in 2005, CVCC has been taking part in cricket tournaments in Virginia and North Carolina.

I’ve never really understood cricket but after a bit of reading it isn’t that difficult. I’ve included a real instructional video after the break, but essentially the batting team tries to score by hitting the ball far enough away from them that they can run back and forth with the other batter. It’s much more like baseball than you would think.

Pictures, instructional video and local game video after the break!
