There’s a *New* Mexico (two of ‘em, actually)

Sometimes commenter dijonbray and I stopped into the new Guadalajara on the way home from Pantops tonight. Apparently they opened up shop on Sunday. We sat at the bar, munching chips and swilling delicious beer, while dijon waited for his food to-go. Business was quite brisk, and they seemed to be handling it quite well.  Nicely done, folks.

Also spotted on High Street: a new place poised to open called La Michoacana. Anyone got the deets on this joint? Is it to be a restaurant? A mini grocery? Somebody dish.

    ¡GUADALAMIGOS!

    That’s some quick posting, Stanley.

My fajita quesadilla was word up, bt dubbs; they were also nice enough to give me a complimentary bag of chips and salsa(at least I don’t think they usually do that).

An excellent addition to the ¡Guadalamigos! empire.

    Current Rankings:

1)Taco Truck(which can be found at the trailer park on 5th st. extended with unpredictable hours)
    2)Aqui es Mexico
    3)New Guadalamigos
    4)Chipotle
    5)El Paso

@1 where do you rank el tapatio, el puerto, & cocina del sol? for thouroughness’s sake.

/goddammit that restaurant sits with tablecloths on the tables for 2 months & then opens as soon as i leave?!

I have yet to eat at El Tapatio, and it’s been a long while since I’ve eaten at El Puerto.

Don’t get me started on Cocina del Sol — That place is CRAZY horrible. I worked out in Crozet for a few years and have eaten there many times, and the only thing that was ever HALF-decent was the veggie burger. They fucked up nachos for Christ’s sake. HOW DO YOU DO THAT!?

i had a friend who was obsessed with el tapatio for a while (i was going to make fun of her but then i remembered how i went to aromas 4 times in one week.); i think it’s better than el puerto but neither is as good as aqui es (because the carnitas burrito is the best burrito EVER). i only went to cocina del sol once, after tastings at stone mountain/gabriele rausse/white hall, so i cannot judge it.

I’ve never been to any of the Guadalajaras, but there’s a very good Mexican restaurant in Orange called San Marcos. The food is comparable to Aqui es Mexico, but in a more elegant storefront setting. It’s on the south side of town on Rt. 15 in a newish small shopping strip.

Has anyone eaten at El Agave? I have not personally eaten there but i have friends that rave about it. I also heard that the owner of Guadalajara is also a part owner of El Agave.

My Friends were just raving about how good Ventana (just off the mall) was. Has anyone else been there?

@8: They have good tequila, but I haven’t had any food.

@8 do not order the salsa sampler. it’s silly, because it’s just chips and salsa (for like $8), and when you run out of chips they don’t give you more chips & then they take the salsas away.

I have a few times. I’d say it just about ties Guad. Similar menu. Similar service. A solid lunch or dinner choice if you’re up near Ruckersville.

    La Michoacana is now open!

Stanley and I drove by and immediately pulled a u-ey when we saw the “now open” banner. You want to know who’s in charge of this new Mexican deli? THE TACO TRUCK PEOPLE. YEESSSSSSSSSSSS! Burritos forever!

15: About halfway between Martha Jefferson and Riverside, on your right-hand side if you’re heading down the hill, away from downtown.

We ate at La Michoacana last night and can confirm that it not only delicious, but it is indeed the new venture of Jose and Elsa (The Taco Truck People). Whoo Hoo!

Jose said they still have the truck for catering gigs. In fact, they have a standing gig every Thursday doing 200 lunchtime tacos for the employees of a company in Crozet.

Let’s keep this place open people. The food is the real deal and the tortillas are super fresh.

Outbound, E. High just before Davis Appliance on the right. The building a house-style building and they do not have a sandwich board on the sidewalk, but they do have a neon sign in the window.
