Why No Politics?

No Hate

You probably noticed we deleted the political thread that was up here earlier this morning.

We deleted it intentionally, not because we are supporters or haters of any given candidate, but just because we asked you and a lot of you were very adamant about not directly discussing issues.

It would be pretty easy for us to follow the election, make fun of Donkeys and Elephants and all that fun stuff, but cVillain is more about having fun than polarizing issues and discussing moot opinions on all the standard political elements of modern America.

If you really want us to do politics, let us know, but otherwise we are going to assume that you can go to other sites to discuss those issues.

For some history on that decision, read this thread and the related comments.

Thor- a question for you- and just you. Could you please be a bit more precise. I’m unsure if this means I cannot take issue with City Council here or the BOS of Albemarle County.(which would be local) Or that you would like to avoid national politics or federal level (not talking about Mark Warner and Obama)

I did not read this mornings thread and only want a clarification so I understand your sense of the communtiy rules. Thanks and have a fun weekend

Um, that poll you linked to shows that the voters were more for politics than against. But seriously, nobody wants to talk about politics. Keep the sports talk out of here too.

Roboto, well, you guys set the rules, but I think local issues are fine, but I think these areas are absolutely polarizing (and it’s obviously hard to detach them from national issues):

    party politics
    Iraq
    abortion
    immigration
    terrorism/homeland security
    health care
    gun control
    etc.

If we run any threads centered around these topics, things will devolve to “I’m orange, so I’m better than anyone who is purple” type arguments due to strong convictions.

I can’t really exactly define what’s not ok, so it’s up to you guys to come up with a definition. It’s more a feel thing.

For instance, this morning we got a F*** Candidate comment and that just made me really pissed. While we are all tosspots and like to behave like children, this is different level of low. We can have debates on these issues when they relate to local stuff, but for the most part, I haven’t seen any absolutionist political opinions on here when those issues do come up.

My fear is that if we publish a lot of political stuff, we will attract those types of people, and no one wants them at a party. This is a party, after all.

@5 Shen, true but we thought of those results as WOW, 50% of our people really don’t want to talk about a standard “newsy” type item. We said, we can leave that out of the mix and we’ll make more people happy than not.

I don’t see the people saying it’s OK to talk about politics being pissed that we don’t. I could be wrong though.

In civilised countries politics is an excuse for drinking alcohol. Obviously you Villains require no excuse to drink alcohol, ergo the ban on politics. That and the fact that Thor is Purple, and us Orange folk know that Purple people have poor personal hygiene, molest small children on a daily basis and are not allowed to go to Heaven when they die.

Dear Thundery Cry-Baby Thor- You have chosen for yourself the roles of A.) All-Powerful Arbiter of Everything Bloggy, and B.) The Faceless Man Behind the Curtain. The former causes people to resent you on a regular basis. The latter removes whatever protection you might otherwise expect as a Real Person.

Furthermore, please let it be known that although I may have mentioned Thor and child molester in the same paragraph I personally do not in any way condone the molestation of small children. Rest assured that if you ever even look crosswise at a small child I shall persecute you.

Further furthermore, thank you for demonstrating how a lowball comment that no one would normally pay much attention to can be dignified by a response!

He’s pretty insane, that john McCain
At 100 years old, it must be a strain
to drive that big old elephant train
around and around as they circle the drain.
“My friends, my friends” is his refrain
“Im not gee dub… let me explain!”
Sometimes, I think, I feel his pain,
to run campaign so hard… yet all in vain,
Though soon I return to my old disdain
for all these legislated morality stains,
and that road of thinking’s narrow lanes
and the endless lines to get on planes
and the lobbyist’s tempting candy canes
and the disappeared who were detained
and the yellow cake which was not obtained
    and thought police ruling unconstrained
and my dollars to the contractors chained
    and…
I think my thoughts will still remain
with ideas that are more humane
and so much in the profane domain
Still, he’s pretty insane, that John McCain
