Nightmare on Preston

Preston Police Traffic Nightmare

So yesterday I was driving back from 29N from an out of town trip and I took Preston at around 4PM. I saw a bunch of police cars driving that way and honestly, I wanted to see what was up. I noticed AT LEAST 8 POLICE CARS. All the flashing lights were a hop past Rugby and I was waiting in what looked like a very big line.

While the crime apparently took place off of Preston, the police officers decided it would be a good idea to block traffic. I waited 10 minutes without any movement. I eventually turned and drove past a HUGE line of cars. I felt like this was an obnoxious move by the police. Maybe there was a good reason for blocking off the roads, but from what I could tell nothing was actually happening on Preston.

I did see them arrest one guy, which is probably big news for the police in this town. But 8+ cop cars and blocking off roads? What gives?

it was a speeder. they figured if 8 cops all gave him tickets, that’d be $1600 more dollars in the city coffers. way to go, guys!

it was a pedestrian they ran over. they blocked the street off to keep witnesses away…

People were walking by on the sidewalk. I hope the pedestrian is ok.

@4…damn…i felt bad until i realized you were kidding too. did it have anything to do maybe with the shooting over on the other side of madison ave. the other day?

This all happened infront of my house. They arrested a morbidly obese woman and patted her down and found a hand gun. They said she had been wanted for a crime but wouldnt tell me anymore. It seemed like she had been driving a jeep that they had her arrested next to. Write more if you know, cause its was pretty scary to see someone arrested with a gun in front of your house…

There was a shooting on Madison Ave the other day? What are the details?

  9. 16 Jun 2008 at 12:54 pmThor said:

Clare, that’s it? That probably explains the police report:

Society VICTIM of Weapon Law Offenses (C), at Preston Av, Charlottesville, VA, on 06/15/2008, 17:52. Reported: 06/15/2008

I saw a guy in Christian’s pizza wearing shorts and a T-shirt (not a cop as far as I could tell) with a gun holstered. It was kinda freaky.

Hey, where did you find that official police report? Are they posted somewhere online?

yeah! screw the OLD media, with its wrinkly OLD skin, with its loose skin and OLD balls…

as b’yo would say, The Hook is only good for cover stories of local unsolved mysteries.

/wishing Robert Stack would replace The Rock as cville’s hottest new celebrity, as it might bring variety/closure to the cover stories of a certain weekly publication

I am very puzzled indeed… why does the BELMONT YO on The Hook blog (who is of course not our Byo) have a username website link back to cVillain if he is a staunch Hookblog supporter? Am I missing something deep and meaningful. Someone way smarter than me… please enlighten me. Kyle?Thor? Terrence the Gerbil?

Flooz, I did finish it. When you think about it, it makes perfect sense. The root-mean-square deviation of the position from its mean times the root-mean-square of the momentum from its mean can never be smaller than Planck’s Constant divided by 4 pi. Fascinating really.
